Reaction Zone - Time to break the mold

I know I've beaten the point home the last few years, but if it wasn't obvious before, it certainly is now.

You know by now that WWE Uncreative decided to turn AJ Styles heel on John Cena, meaning that the "break-up" of The Club was just a ruse all along. Gee, like who didn't see that coming? And who was the victim? Who else? John Cena, this generation's Hulk Hogan, insofar as Vince McMahon is concerned, at least when it comes to merchandise.

Cena has been on the main roster 14 years. "American Grit" is just about done, and probably won't be back for another cycle, the ratings are so bad. The reason they won't turn him heel isn't so much that he doesn't want to, but that he moves too much merchandise at the concession tables. He's also the guy who grants the most wishes for Make-A-Wish. Translation: Cena is a role model for children in ways that Hogan never was.

It just happens to be a happy coincidence for The Club that their Bullet Club brethren are making inroads in Ring of Honor right around the same time that Styles, Luke "Doc" Gallows, & Karl Anderson are in WWE. Yeah, I know, Styles was booted from Bullet Club in Japan in January because he was coming to WWE, but Gallows & Anderson weren't treated rudely on their way out two months later. Hmmmm.

Vince McMahon simply refuses to unseat Cena as his #1 star. Roman Reigns is #2, and Styles, Gallows, & Anderson were already fed to him. McMahon, you'll recall, had experimented with an nWo revival of his own 14 years ago, before Cena was called up, back when Stone Cold Steve Austin, the Rock, & Kurt Angle were on the roster. The nWo, WWE version, lasted 5 months, but by the time it was over, Hogan had turned face, Scott Hall had been cut, and Kevin Nash was on the DL. Enough said. Because the nWo was a WCW creation, Vince would've crapped on it anyway, but fate made his job easier. Fans are already fearing that The Club will meet the same fate, largely because Vince won't call up former NXT champ Finn Balor, who, as Prince Devitt, founded Bullet Club in the first place, likely until it's too late.

The brand split in mid-July could solve everything, but only if Vince is kept out of the loop. I see tag gold in Gallows & Anderson's future, which would put them in exclusive company, as only two teams (Dudley Boyz & Road Warriors) have held both the WWF/E & IWGP tag titles, and Gallows/Anderson would be the third. Gold is also in AJ Styles' future, but the way he was quickly pushed to a title shot vs. Reigns suggested that McMahon was looking to stick it to Styles the same way he's mistreated other stars that came from TNA and/or WCW in recent years. Styles has both of those acronyms on his resume, as he was in WCW in 2000-1.

But what if Triple H has him looking at what is going on in Ring of Honor, and realizing, we can do it here, too? I'd rather Hunter was in charge now, but I've been there enough times. As much as I'd think the Club could be major players, I also know Vince's track record, and it ain't good.
