Just to show how different and outside the box Lucha Underground is from everyone else, we open season 2 with Vampiro in a psychiatric hospital. It's been nearly six months since Ultima Lucha aired, but there's no reason why Vamp was even here in the first place. He's being evaluated by a doctor amidst flashbacks from last season, including his match with Pentagon, Jr.. Vamp is discharged, and Matt Striker meets him with a sweet new ride. As Matt tells Vampiro, the Temple has become a darker place.

That's because new champ Mil Muertes & Catrina have taken over in Dario Cueto's absence. Mil sits on a throne where the bandstand usually is. Matt & Vamp welcome us inside the temple, and Vamp says the drinking game has started. Meaning, fans at home will take a shot anytime he says "brother".

In the office, Catrina meets with Fenix, who wants Muertes, but Catrina reminds that as Gift of the Gods champ, Fenix must defend that belt until it is time to challenge for the LU title.....

1. Gift of the Gods title: Fenix vs. King Cuerno.

Air traffic control on full alert. There is no way anyone follows this match. Absolutely no way. Fenix hit two Lethal Injections, the second which floated into a dragon sleeper, but Cuerno doesn't tap. Cuerno hit Thrill of the Hunt for 2. Fenix missed a springboard 450. Cuerno teased a 2nd Thrill, but instead hit a cradle tombstone piledriver, and that's all she wrote. Right out of the box, a new champ is crowned.

Winner: King Cuerno.

Former trios champions Angelico, Son of Havoc, & Ivelisse Velez arrive on motorcyles. Seems Ivey and Havoc are back together as a couple. Catrina meets them in the garage, and tells them Mil wants them to face each other in a triple threat, with the winner advancing to a title match in the main event.

2. Ivelisse Velez vs. Angelico vs. Son of Havoc.

Yep, air traffic control still on alert. No highlight reel moves from Angelico this time. Still kind of awkward with Ivey in there with her partners, taking so much abuse. However, after crotching Havoc to block the 450, she hits a La Majistral cradle on Angelico for the upset.

Winner: Ivelisse Velez.

3. LU title: Mil Muertes vs. Ivelisse Velez.

The guys stay out to provide protection, but the Disciples of Death show up and take them away. Other than that, a protracted squash. For some reason, perhaps an abuse of privelege, Catrina decides to get in the ring late in the bout. Mil ends up spearing her as Velez escapes. All that did was postpone the inevitable. Powerslam, flatliner. See you later.

Winner: Mil Muertes.

Instead of the Lick of Death, Catrina decides not to go with that ritual, and commands Mil to give Ivey another flatliner. Prince Puma appears and leads Ivey to safety. Then, Pentagon, Jr. shows up, and promptly gets a face pop when he picks up where Puma left off, eventually "breaking the arm" of the champion. Uh-oh!

The show closes with three guys arriving at an undisclosed location, escorted by a slightly plumper Black Lotus. This is where Dario Cueto is hanging out. After charging $20 admission, he lets the men in-----only to tell them they have a match. Well, not really. Let's just say Matanza was behind the door, and use your imagination.
