Detailed Results
When we left Lucha Underground on July 20, Dario Cueto was in police custody. However, as a prison guard notes at the start of this week's season premiere, Dario has friends in high places. Dario is doing chin-ups in his cell when he gets the news that he is being released.

The prison attendant (Wayne Farris, alias the Honky Tonk Man) gives Dario his personal effects, and it feels like a scene out of "The Blues Brothers" when Dario steps out of the prison. It has rained, as we see a limo pull up. Councilman Delgado (Lorenzo Lamas) is in with a mystery 3rd man, who warns Dario that his next mistake could be his last.

Jump cut, and Dario is in the temple with Matanza. Long story short, Pentagon Dark vs. Rey Mysterio, Jr. is the main event. Matanza, though, needs an opponent. Hence, the Dial of Doom, and the first spin lands on Son of Havoc, who gets the title match that Dario screwed him out of on the last show.

1. Lucha Underground title: Matanza Cueto vs. Son of Havoc.

SOH employs a stick and move offense, hitting Matanza from a number of different directions, but gets only near falls. It just isn't meant to be his night. One high risk move too many leads to Wrath of the Gods and another successful title defense for Matanza.

Winner: Matanza Cueto.

Back in the comfort of his office, Dario is confronted by Worldwide Underground. Turns out they beat up Angelico again after Ultima Lucha Dos in another cowardly 4-on-1 attack. Johnny Mundo, greedy and clearly the leader of this pack of wolves, wants Matanza. Not now. Then, he wants the Gift of the Gods, but that title shot is given to Taya.......next.

But before that, Ivelisse cuts a promo on Catrina. The two will meet at Ultima Lucha Tres at the end of the season.

2. Gift of the Gods title: Sexy Star vs. Taya.

The guys are in the back, presumably thinking Taya doesn't need their help. As Matt Striker helpfully notes, all previous GotG title defenses have ended in title changes. Striker & Vampiro name drop two British wrestlers, Johnny Smith and Johnny Saint. Meh. Late in the match, the boys decide to help, not realizing Taya has things in hand. However, their interference costs Taya dearly, as Sexy rolls her up following a miscue with Mundo.

Winner: Sexy Star.

Another sore loser gang mugging brings the trios champions--Fenix, Drago, & Aerostar--to Sexy's aid. Smell an 8-person tag next week.

Dario now must deal with Marty Martinez, and even Dario is appalled by Marty's mental instability. A WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) match vs. Killshot next week, so Killshot can finally get his dog tags back. If I was booking, Marty'd already be stripped of the tags and sent to Bellevue.......

3. Pentagon Dark vs. Rey Mysterio, Jr..

Fans are split here, as some support the arm-breaker. Takes all kinds, really. As Matt & Vamp note, today's luchadores were all inspired, for the most part, by the exploits of Mysterio when he first broke in 20 years ago, so Pentagon does have Rey scouted pretty well. Missile splash gets 2. Rey finally connects with the 619, but instead of a 2nd missile splash, he lands a Mexican (Canadian) Destroyer, the first time I've seen him use it, for the win.

Winner: Rey Mysterio, Jr..

Upset over the loss, and after confronting his former mentor, Vamp, earlier, Pentagon initiates a sore loser attack, but Dragon Azteca, Jr. makes the save, setting up a grudge, likely for next week as well.

Vamp is backstage and happens across Prince Puma. Looks like we may get Puma-Mil Muertes II soon, but is Vamp angling to become the Prince's new mentor?
