We open with footage from "moments ago" with Jeff Hardy & Abyss brawling backstage, and then it leads to the Impact Zone. Jeff's looking to avenge what Abyss did to Rob Van Dam last week, but nothing's been settled. The fight spills back toward the fan entrance where Gunner & Murphy, the would be tag team of security agents, finally separate the combatants.
Jump cut, and Eric Bischoff is in the ring. He describes Abyss' attack as reprehensible and "borderline homicidal". He also holds Ric Flair responsible for Fortune's attack on EV2.0 last week. Due to RVD's injuries, which according to Bischoff includes over 100 stitches from the neck to the left ankle, and damaged organs, Van Dam has to vacate the championship, and a tournament starts tonight, ending at Bound For Glory in October.
1. Jeff Hardy vs. Rob Terry.
Jeff hasn't changed clothes and is selling the effect of his earlier fight. Terry hit a front slam (World's Strongest Slam) for 2, but that and a pair of spin kicks was the extent of "The Freak"'s offense. Hardy hit the Whisper in the Wind, but when he hit the Swanton, Terry was way out of position, as it comes off looking like a deluxe version of Kofi Kingston's Boom Drop. Winner: Jeff Hardy.
Fortune is arriving in the building.
2. Mr. Anderson vs. Jay Lethal.
Total babyface match, but way too short. Lethal went for the Lethal Combination. Anderson blocked. Mic Check blocked once, but not the 2nd time. Winner: Mr. Anderson.
The two shook hands afterward.
After a vidpack recapping what Fortune did to EV2.0 last week, Christy Hemme is with Angelina Love. Madison Rayne has invoked her rematch clause already and will get the rematch tonight. Love has a plan to offset the masked motorcycle chick (Tara) serving as Madison's bodyguard......! Hulk Hogan is on a cell phone, teasing that he's quitting because of what happened last week, and doesn't sound like he's fully on board with the decision to vacate the title.
3. TNA Knockouts title: Angelina Love vs. Madison Rayne.
Rayne rides through the side entrance with the biker babe, so Angelina counters with her old running buddy, Velvet Sky. Not quite as long as last week, and you'd think the biker babe would settle for just removing the helmet, since we know she has a mask on underneath. She tripped Angelina, drawing Velvet's attention. Velvet answers by tripping Madison. How ref Earl Hebner missed all of that is a miracle and a mystery at the same time. Madison yells at Velvet and walks right into a Botox Injection (Brogue Kick). Winner: Angelina Love.
Motor City Machine Guns video, culled from Reaction last week. The Guns have finally reached the top of the tag team division, and will see action next week.
Fortune is now in the ring with 2 new members: X division champ Douglas Williams and Matt Morgan, the latter hired as a bodyguard for Ric Flair. AJ Styles cuts a promo talking about how TNA is the "house" that he built. Dixie Carter is out, and brings out EV2.0, represented tonight by Tommy Dreamer, Raven, Rhino, Stevie Richards, Guido, Sabu, and Tony Luke, along with Mick Foley. Figure Foley, Rhino, Raven, & Richards, who had been on the active roster earlier in the year, got new deals or something. Foley & Dreamer cut promos on Flair. Foley says he was responsible for Flair coming to TNA at the beginning of the year, a move Foley now regrets. A main event match is made for tonight between Dreamer & Styles. Dreamer also cut a promo on Abyss, promising revenge for RVD.
4. Non-title: Douglas Williams vs. Kurt Angle.
Williams' X title isn't on the line, but a berth in the semi-finals at No Surrender on Sept. 5 is. Angle cut a promo pre-match, and again stated that if he loses, he's retired. Best match on the card so far. The two traded suplexes for much of the match. Angle hit the rolling Germans for a 2. Williams, who looks like he either got a hair cut or a dye job, went for the Chaos Theory, but Angle cut that off and clamped on the anklelock. Once he grapevined the leg, figure four style, Williams tapped. Winner: Kurt Angle.
Kevin Nash & Sting are headed to the ring. According to Nash, after 20 years in the business, there is no one he respects more than Sting, who says nothing. He doesn't like the idea of having to step aside without being asked. Isn't that how the NWO started in 1996? Anyway, Jeff Jarrett & Hulk Hogan make their way down. They're about to throw down when the lights go out. When they come back on Fortune has struck again, laying out all 4 men. Could these 4 men, all former members of the NWO, be forced to come together after all to stop Flair's plans to take over TNA?
Before that incident, Mr. Anderson talked about how he too respects RVD, but as Bischoff said earlier, the show must go on.
Meanwhile, Raven is already questioning Tommy Dreamer's strategy, and Stevie Richards, his long time lieutenant, is trying to talk some sense. They, too, are going after Fortune, as we know from earlier.
5. Matt Morgan vs. Pope D'Angelo Dinero.
The last tournament match of the evening spins out of last week's triple threat. Morgan pinned Dinero, but now the two go at it one on one. Morgan's arrogance, however, is his downfall. He has Dinero primed for a Carbon Footprint on the post, but Dinero slides out, then hits a modified Dinero Express while Morgan is crotched on the post. Dinero then moves Morgan into the ring, hooks the legs and the left hand after Morgan tried to force a break, and gets the pin. Winner: Pope D'Angelo Dinero.
The semi-final brackets are revealed. Dinero will renew issues with Anderson, while Hardy & Angle, two ex-WWE stars, will meet in the other semi-final. I think we know who's winning the tournament, don't we, kids?
6. Non-title: AJ Styles vs. Tommy Dreamer.
TV title isn't on the line, but after this match, it should be in a rematch. Dreamer hangs tough with Styles, even after the wounds suffered last week are reopened. Styles hit a Pele kick for 2. Springboard forearm is blocked and Dreamer hits the Evenflow DDT for 2 as Fortune makes their way down, only to be intercepted by EV2.0. Sandman has joined the party. Abyss emerges from under the ring and wipes out Dreamer with a Black Hole Slam behind the back of ref Earl Hebner. Styles takes advantage and steals the pin. Winner: AJ Styles.
Fortune & EV2.0 are brawling as Abyss escapes through the crowd to end the show.
