It's been awhile - but its finally update time!
I apologize for not being as active writing lately. It has been quite an up and down year for Mike The Mark, and hopefully things are finally beginning to settle down. But enough about me. There seems to be a lot to talk about, so let's get to it!
The Vince McMahon exploding limo scene was something right out of the Monday Night Wars, and while it was shocking and will most likely help ratings and get people talking for a little bit, I think long term this type of angle will not help the company at all. Contrary to reports from WWE, shareholders within the company have been voicing their displeasure for the angle since it took place. The angle was done due to pressure from Bonnie Hammer and the USA network looking for a boost to increase ratings, and asking for something big and shocking. Well, it was big to say the least. But in the era of the internet, the WWE made a number of mistakes, which continues to be a running theme of theirs since 2001. The first mistake was making the WWE website almost a memorial for a fake angle, claiming that Vince was presumed dead. I don't know about you, but that's almost insulting to my intelligence and makes me want to stop visiting their site altogether. But, there was something that was even worse, to the point where I haven't watched any WWE programming since the event took place. Having a ten bell salute to a person who is alive and well (well, he is alive, from the way he's been driving his creative team crazy lately, doing well might be an overstatement) is beyond absurd, and is something that almost trivializes the actual deaths that have already occured. I thought the one thing in this business that would be sacred would be the real life passing of people who bled to make money for your company. I guess that isn't the case anymore. It's a sad day when I think that I want Stephanie to take over now because I think she would do a better job. I cannot believe I just typed that.
The reason behind Ashley Massaro being "suspended" and taken off of television is because she is going to be cast in the upcoming Survivor season. Great way to waste national exposure on someone who isn't going to get over with the crowd now or ever. I know the rosters are very thin due to injury,
but it would have made more sense to send a mid-card talent (or even a developmental talent they were planning to bring up) with potential to become a breakout star than a girl who has absolutely no talent. Because of who they are sending, I expect this to have no long term positive impact on the company.
