What A Week It Has Been
"The Franchise Speaks His Mind" Written by: The Franchise on 7/02/2007
I haven't received the latest issue of the wrestling observer, but I am very interested in what Dave Meltzer has to say about the entire Benoit situation, as I look up to him in a journalistic sense. If you have never heard of Meltzer or the wqrestling observer newsletter, go to www.wrestlingobserver.com. The newsletter is simply the best source of information out there, and is well worth the purchase price. I want to talk for a minute about the conspiracy thoery's that I have been reading recently, about how someone else must have killed everyone in the house. Look, I understand that Chris Benoit was an icon in the business. He was one of my three favorite wrestlers of all time. But Chris Benoit did this. There is one single fact that can erase any doubts you may have. When the police initially arrived on scene to do a welfare check on the Benoit family, the could not get in at first because of the guard dogs. If the police could not get in the house without assistance, no one was getting into the house. I find it sad and patchetic really that people need to stoop to coming up with these silly stories. If you decide to forgive Chris Benoit and remember the man who entertained all of us for 20 years, thats fine. But do not delude yourself into thinking there is another person behind this. The news media has of course picked up on this story, and they have done an absolutely terrible job with a few exceptions. One person in particular, Bill O'Reilly, has to be the worst journalist I have ever seen in a prominent role on television. Mr. O'Reilly tries to make connections that aren't there, and obviously had very little knowledge about the case himself. I sat through his nonsense for about 5 seconds, heard him ramble something about there not being a drug policy at all, and knew that he had no idea what he was talking about. I will say that the WWE wellness policy as a whole is an absolute joke, and for anyone in the WWE to make the claim that it is effective is sad. Yes, they do random testing. Yes, they test for lots of things. But, the loophole when it comes to anabolic steroids is this. Your doctor knows you are a prominent athlete in any business. You go to him and say I need a prescription for steroids. Mr. Star Struck doctor then takes it upon himself to prescribe said steroids without a valid reason to do so. Guess what? You just avoided being tested for steroids in the WWE. As long as you have a legal prescription for any drug you are taking, you either do not get tested for the substance or it doesn't come back as a failure. What an absolute joke! If you think Chris Masters could actually pass a steroid test right now, then you are deluded. One final piece of news I want to talk about is the WWE themselves. Vince McMahon has had a love affair with larger than life characters since Hulk Hogan was first World Champion in the 1980's. I pray that he finally takes a look at the business which has afforded him the finer things in life and takes it upon himself to finally see that bigger is not always better. I doubt he will, but there is always hope!
