TNA signs Pacman Jones and Former WWE stars
"That's My Story And I'm Sticking To It" Written by: Dr. Wrestling on 8/08/2007

This week for That's My Story and I'm Sticking To It I'll be telling you what I think of some of the talent that TNA has signed.

Most of you have probably read that TNA signed Tennessee Titan Pacman Jones to some type of deal and it seems like TNA's motive is to use the signing to get publicity, which it has so far since the deal was reported. Pacman's agent has said that he won't be wrestling during his time in TNA, which leaves a few questions when it comes to Pacman's role in TNA. When will he debut? and what will his role be? The answer is probably a ref or enforcer, similar to what Tito Ortiz did for his appearances in TNA. ESPN has picked up the story and TNA will definitely get publicity from the signing of the NFL star but it might not be the publicity they want because some media reports could make the signing seem ridiculous, which could make TNA look like a joke. There's a negative light being shed on the pro wrestling industry due to the steroid cases and as a result, it might not be the best time for TNA to try to get the media to mention the company. As I said, the media could make the signing of Pacman Jones seem ridiculous and that would really help TNA. Obviously TNA wants more people to view the show when Pacman finally does appear but will they keep those viewers? TNA would need something on the show to make people want to watch the show week to week and as of right now it doesn't seem like TNA is trying to expand their audience, atleast not from a wrestling stand point. Another thing you have to wonder is what TNA is paying Pacman to sign a deal to appear for the company and if that amount is worth it. While this may or may not be a Vince Russo decision, It's obvious that TNA is trying anything they can to get more viewers but this might not be the best way to get more people to watch Impact because even though Pacman will get TNA mentioned on some sports shows, the signing won't improve the TNA wrestling product. TNA has tried the base ball storyline, which had minimal success but maybe the conterversal football star, Pacman Jones can boost the ratings for a few weeks.

The another signing that took place recently was former WWE star Andrew "Test" Martin has signed with TNA. Andrew "Test" Martin, who will now be known as "The Punisher" Andrew Martin is a former IC champion and during his latest run in the WWE he was wrestling in ECW. Martin was given a push while wrestling in ECW but the success was very minimal at best because he was released from the WWE. Martin debuted for TNA last week on Impact and it will be announced on Impact this week that he will be in the main event of the Sacrifice PPV. The main event will be Abyss, Sting, and Martin v.s. Christain Cage, A.J. Styles, and Tomko in a barbed wire cage match. You have to wonder what the logic was of putting Martin in the main event literally two weeks after he signed with the company and he hasn't even had a match in TNA. Seriously, what has he done in his career to main event a PPV? How does being a mid carder in the WWE automatically translate to being in the main event of a TNA PPV? Martin wasn't exactly a major star in the WWE so it really doesn't make sense that he's main eventing a TNA PPV. You would think TNA would realize that starting a mid carder in the main event probably won't work and Cage's first TNA title reign is proof of that. It's seems like common sense that when you start a wrestler at the top of the ladder the only place to go is back down the ladder. I think Martin could have a better run in TNA then he did in the WWE but I think TNA would have to give him a push instead of starting him in the main event of a PPV. This could be another case of TNA signing another WWE cast away and it will be interesting to see how Martin's run in TNA goes for a few months.

Matt Morgan has also signed a deal with TNA and he appeared during an Eric Young promo on the TNA today show on TNA's website. Morgan did say anything and more or less just showed up in the background and then walked away and the promo continued for the show. There's not really much to say about the signing because Morgan didn't do much during his time in the WWE but that's not to say he couldn't become a star in TNA. TNA should be smart enough to give Morgan a manager to do the mic work and he might have a chance at success.

A few other things about the Sacrifice PPV. TNA is promoting the Team 3D v.s. The Stiener Brothers match as a tag team "dream match" but I have to disagree that it's a "dream match" Let's be honest here The Steiner Brothers are a washed up WCW tag team and they are way past their prime. Team 3D seems like a shell of the team they were but that might be to how TNA booked the team in TNA. I'm not trying to bury either team here but I don't think the match will be on the "dream match" level due to both Stieners being older then they were during their previous tag title runs. The Steiners haven't been a team for years and some fans might not care that they are a tag team again. Team 3D has certainly proved that they could be one of the greatest teams of all time but it seems that their best days as a team are now behind them, as TNA has made them seem like a very average tag team. I say this because Team 3D was in TNA for a year and a half before they won the tag titles and before that it seemed like there wasn't really a meaningful role in the company for the team. The other reason I think they have been made to look like an average tag team is that their title reign lasted about three months, which isn't really the type of run you would expect from one of the best tag teams of all time. There's another Bobby Rhoode/Eric Young match at the PPV and the only thing I can really say about this match is that the feud should have ended months ago. The feud is stale and has went on for way too long so TNA should probably start new feuds for both wrestlers because the Rhoode/Young matches have been seen too many times. The winner takes all match between Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle is being promoted as the main draw for the PPV but it might be obvious who will walk away with all the gold. I don't know if it makes a difference to the result of the match but the IWGP title will also be on the line during the match and it will be interesting to see if Inoki will let the IWGP title change hands at Sacrifice. You would think Inoki would have some say in who is the champion of his company and if Samoa Joe wins the match it will be interesting to see if he defends the IWGP title in Japan. That being said, the three matches of the Angle/Joe series didn't really live up to the hype and that might be because the expectations were too much for the matches but with so much gold on the line it seems like the match at Sacrifice will have to be one of the better matches of the series to make the titles seem important.

Overall I think the signings could help TNA but they have to improve the booking to get a better wrestling product.

Until next week
