Wrestling Returns

This week for That's My Story and I'm Sticking To It I'll be telling you what I think of some of the recent returns in pro wrestling. When talking about recent returns to the wrestling world you would have to consider the return of Chris Jericho to be the one to have the most impact of all the recent stars that will get back in the ring. I know that WWE themselves basically spoiled Jericho's return so it wasn't a surprise but atleast it gave the fans a reason to tune in, which should help the ratings. I have to say last week Jericho's promo started somewhat generic but he eventually mentioned some funny stuff that reminded fans of the Y2J that they all remember from years past. It seems as though the WWE isn't wasting anytime, having Jericho feud with WWE champion, Randy Orton and I have to say at this point the WWE made a great decision putting Jericho back into the title picture where he belongs because it makes for what should be a very entertaining feud. Besides the former Undisputed Champion being a logical chose because of his skill, the WWE also doesn't really have any top level "good guys" to feud with Orton. Triple H has already feuded with Orton for the title twice, HBK has had his share of recent PPV title matches, and Cena is injured so it would seem like the only logically decision to have Jericho feuded with Orton for the title. It's been reported on internet sites that Jericho will challenge Orton for the title at Armageddon and I will be attending Armageddon at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania so I think it will be cool to see a Jericho v.s. Orton match for the title. Another note about Jericho is that his promo and match with Santino Marella were very entertaining so it seems like Jericho is still able to get it done in the ring, despite his time away from the ring. A quick side note to Santino Marella, I have to mention that he has become a great and very entertaining heel. Marella as a "fan" winning the IC title seemed very one dimensional but he's basically been able to reinvent his character when he turned heel. He deserves credit for making his "feud" with Stone Cold work because Santino was able to get heat from the crowd and Stone Cold only made one appearance during the course of the "feud". It was Santino's great mic skills about "stomping mud pies" that made the feud work and it will be interesting to see if Santino gets another run with IC title but this time as a heel IC champion. Scott Hall made his return to TNA a few weeks ago and is set to be a part of the six man tag main event at Turning Point but should the former WWE IC champion be back in the ring? I would say no and I also have to question the logic of why TNA is trying another Outsiders reunion. It's been reported recently that Hall has been able to over come problems he's had in the past and that's great but that doesn't mean he should be back in the ring. Hall seems to have aged alot since his last appearance on national T.V. and it seems like he wasn't as quick as he used to be when he was selling moves on Impact. I also don't think that Hall will send the ratings through the roof but different from most of the former WWE "super stars" TNA has hired, Hall could contribute to TNA. There's really no question that Hall has alot of charisma and good mic skills so I think if he was used in a role similar to how Kevin Nash was used a few months ago, he could really help get storylines over with the crowd. I doubt Hall's in ring ability at this point in his career but who knows? Maybe at Turning Point he will prove that he can still go and he has one last run in him but I'm more interested in seeing if TNA can use Hall in a way that can actually benefit the company. Now don't get me wrong here, I definitely think that Hall can improve TNA with his charisma and mic skills but judging by TNA's booking history that probably won't capitalize on Hall helping the company. The another Outsider, Kevin Nash has also made a return to the ring and will be wrestling at Turning Point. If you've read some of my columns about TNA in the past few months you know that I think Kevin Nash has done great things with the X Division really developing characters for the X Division and more recently the "Dr. Nash" segments with Kurt Angle have been funny. In fact, how TNA used Nash was one of the few things I think TNA has done right the past few months but now TNA has Nash back in the ring main eventing a PPV and I can't disagree more with this decision. I don't know what TNA expects Nash to do for the company in the ring and if you've heard any of Nash's interviews this year, he says himself that he couldn't get back in the ring because of past injuries but once again Nash is wrestling. As I said, Nash helped developed characters in the X Division with his promos and mic skills. He was helping get the younger stars over with the crowd, which is what an older star should do for an up and coming company. Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Alex Shelly, and Chris Sabin are just a few of the young stars that have been able to develop a character with the help of Kevin Nash. A side note about the X Division, those stars along with some of the others on the TNA roster have made Impact a great show the past few weeks and there's a few matches I will mention that have really improved Impact the past few weeks. Kaz v.s. Kurt Angle from a few weeks ago was a great matches and it was obvious that Kaz wasn't going to win the title but it was one of the better matches that have been seen on Impact. The Samoa Joe v.s. A.J. Styles v.s. Chris Sabin match from last week also ranks up there as one of the top matches that have been seen on Impact, atleast in the recent months. This past Monday on Raw, Ric Flair made his long awaited return to the WWE and from his promo on Raw you can see that "The Nature Boy" is still as entertaining as he was when he took a break from the ring. It's been said that the storyline that was put into place on Raw will be Flair's final run before retiring from in ring action and I have to say I hope that even after he retires The Nature Boy still have a role in the WWE. Hopefully the WWE will do the right thing and let the legend retire on a good note. Let's be honest here, Ric Flair is probably the greatest of all time and he deserves to have a respectable final run. I've said it in the past that I think Flair should get another title run and I think it would be a cool way for him to retire but it probably won't happen. As far as the storyline goes, I think if it's done right it could be a great storyline leading possibly to Wrestlemania and Flair could have a respectable retirement. Ric Flair is a true legend and it's cool to see that he's involved in a major storyline before he retires.
