Who will win at The Great American Bash?
"That's My Story And I'm Sticking To It" Written by: Dr. Wrestling on 7/18/2007

This week for That's My Story and I'm Sticking To It I'll be telling you who I think the winners will be at The Great American Bash.

Before I discuss the PPV, I think it's important to note that Edge was forced to relinquish the title because of a pectoral injury and he will be out of action for about four months. This is yet another example of an injury putting a title reign to an end and it seemed like Edge was going to get a solid run but he will be on injured list for the next for months. Edge is a three time WWE champion but doesn't have much to show for it, considering his combined time as champion is about three months. Edge could have had a good reign as champion and the Edge/Kane feud could have been one of the better feuds that has been on Smackdown in the past few months. With Edge injured who would be the World Heavy Weight champion? Smackdown had a battle royal and The Great Khali is the new champion. Let's get to some predictions for the PPV.

The U.S. title match should be a good match and I think MVP will retain the title. I don't see Matt winning the title at this point because the WWE pushed MVP to the U.S. title and after a push he will probably have the title atleast a few months. This feud has some potential and I could see Hardy chasing the title for a few months. It seems like despite Matt being over with the crowd that the WWE chose to bury his career until his brother Jeff returned to the WWE. The Hardys reunion helped stabilize the tag division on Raw and it also helped to get their careers back on track. It will be interesting to see if Matt actually gets a U.S. title run or if the WWE would have him go back to being a jobber.

The Texas Bull Rope match could be an entertaining match and I'd expect it to be a bloody match. Dusty might not be a quick as he used to be in the ring but they brutality of the match might cover up for Dusty being a little older. This match is somewhat predictable and I think Randy Orton will get the victory. It would add to his "legend killer" character and it could also start a Cody Rhodes/Randy Orton feud. That's a feud that could have some good matches and form his debut Cody seems to have some good wrestling ability.

The Women's title match could be an okay match and it's a tough one to pick a winner. Candice Michelle has only had the title for a few weeks and Melina has been winning matches on Raw. I'll pick Melina to win the title but that's more of a guess then a solid prediction.

The IC title match might be an okay match but it's another somewhat predictable match. It seems like Umaga will be a transitional champion to get the title from Santino Marrela to Jeff Hardy. Umaga already had a run as IC champion and with Estrada there to work the mic there's not alot to build a storyline. I'll pick Jeff Hardy to win the title and if Jeff wins there's a number of good matches that could take place for the IC title. Hardy v.s. Benjamin, Carlito, or Regal could be good matches and it will be interesting to see who challenges for the IC title after the PPV.

The ECW title match will feature two of the WWE's young stars and it seems like they both have a bright future in the WWE. Nitro or now Morrison has made alot of progress since his debut in the WWE. He was one of the winners of Tough Enough and then he was an assistant for then RAW GM, Eric Bischoff, which is where he originally go the name Nitro. He's also had success as a tag team wrestler as part of MNM and I think the team could have done more in the tag division if given the chance before Mercury was released. Although Nirto might not have credibility as the ECW champion yet it seems he has the skill to prove he can be a legitimate main eventer in ECW. CM Punk has already proved he has the skill to be a champion and it seems like only a matter of time until he has a main event spot on a WWE brand. Some people have said that Punk should have won the title at December To Dismember but I have to disagree because up to that point Punk had been involved in mostly squash matches. I think some people set the expectations for Punk to be too much as it seemed that some people expected him to get a major spot on a WWE as soon as he debuted because of his accomplishments in Ring Of Honor but it seems like the WWE made the right decision to build Punk to a title. The push has given Punk the chance to show his skills to a new audience and if Punk wins the title I think it will help the ECW brand. I'll pick Punk to win the title and I think the feud will continue after the PPV.

The World Heavy Weight title match could be a train wreck and let's all hope it's a short match. If you've read any of my columns about Khali in the main event then you know that I don't think he should be main eventing a $40 PPV. That being said, you have probably figured out what I'm going to say about Khali being the WWE champion. Instead of going on a rant about the many reasons Khali shouldn't be the champion I'm just going to say that I think Khali is going to lose the title at the PPV and let's all hope that Khali loses the title at the PPV. Even though I'm not a fan of Batista I will give him credit for improving the past few months but I still don't think he can carry Smackdown. That's why I will pick Kane to win the title at The Great American Bash. Kane has always had solid matches and he deserves a main event spot. It also seems that Kane is really the only option WWE has for a World champion on Smackdown. Batista has had his chance to carry the brand and he couldn't really carry Smackdown. If Khali retains the title I don't think there will be a reason to watch Smackdown and it will be interesting to see the direction Smackdown goes after the PPV.

The WWE championship match might be a good match and it's another one that's tough to pick a winner. The WWE has pushed Bobby Lashley for months but despite the push I don't really consider a legitimate main event wrestler and I think he lacks the charisma to be the WWE champion. The reason it's tough to pick a winner for this match is that Lashley has been pushed for months to be a main event wrestler but It doesn't seem like he has the charisma to be the WWE champion. I'll pick Cena to retain the title but that's more of a guess then a solid prediction.

Overall I think The Great American Bash will be an okay PPV.

Until next week
