TNA Releases
"That's My Story And I'm Sticking To It" Written by: Dr. Wrestling on 8/16/2007
This week for That's My Story and I'm Sticking To It I'll be telling you what I think of some of the recently TNA releases. Matt Bently is a former X Division champion and he's won the Ultimate X match. Something that's consist with Bently's TNA career is that he hasn't had a gimmick that works in TNA for a solid period of time or a gimmick that TNA is willing to use on a consist basis. During the earlier days of TNA, when Bently was known as Micheal Shane, he was in a stable with Shane Douglas but after a feud with Douglas it didn't really do much for Bently's career. Bently formed a tag team with Kaz while Impact was still on Fox Sports Net but the team dissolved due to Kaz signing with the WWE. Bently would continue wrestling in the X Division but Bently wasn't used much in TNA. Bently would resurface as a member of Serotonin, lead by Raven, which was similar to the flock and other Raven stables of past years. This is where TNA's booking could be blamed because Serotonin was an interesting stable that TNA could have done alot with but the stable was barely given any T.V. time to become an established stable in TNA. It's well known that Bently is the cousin of Shawn Micheals and Bently has some wrestling ability so it's possible he could sign some type of WWE contract at some point but even if he would sign with the WWE his success would probably be minimal at best because the WWE doesn't do much with the Cruiser Weight Division. The Bashams were another example where TNA's booking could be blamed for the team not getting over in TNA. The VKM/Bashams feud was a botched feud and TNA dropped after building it for months as to which Mystery team Christy Hemme would bring in to wrestle VKM. Since the feud has been dropped The Bashams haven't done anything in TNA and even when TNA was giving the feud some T.V. time the Bashams only made a few appearances. With the angle they were brought in for dropped it doesn't seem like there was much of a reason to keep The Bashams around TNA, which is probably why they were released. It seems like Brother Runt just didn't have much of a place in TNA when he wasn't occasional used as the third member of Team 3D. Other then being thrown around by Abyss months ago Runt didn't really do anything in TNA. The reason it seems like Runt didn't really have a place in TNA is because he doesn't have an X Division style and he's not a heavy weight wrestler so there wasn't really anything he could do from a storyline stand point in TNA. Runt's career has centered around him being thrown threw tables into the crowd and he did that so what was there really left for him to do in TNA? If Team 3D would resign with the WWE there might be a chance Runt could be resigned with the WWE but other then that it doesn't seem like Runt will be returning to the WWE anytime soon. While most of the releases aren't really a surprise, the release of Jerry Lynn certainly wasn't expected and I don't think TNA should have released him because as Lynn proved when he returned to the X Division earlier this year that he could still have good matches. Lynn is one of the pioneers on the X Division and I think he still had alot to add to the division, both from an in ring and storyline stand point. The Lynn/Sabin feud from a few months ago could have been a good feud but it concluded as a rather lack luster feud, mostly because after building up his return to the X Dvision Lynn was basically used as a jobber. I think Lynn should have won the title during the feud because at that point Sabin's run as champion was stable and Lynn could have been a good champion. Overall I don't think the recent released will really have an effect on TNA but it's proof of TNA's booking mistakes and it doesn't seem like TNA's booking is going to improve anytime soon.
