The last winner you'd expect

When John Cena was forced to vacate the WWE title a few months back due to a torn pec injury, we were told he'd be gone anywhere from 6-12 months. That announcement didn't come from Cena himself, though, but rather from Chairman Vince McMahon, making the announcement on ECW. Looking back, and given how old storylines are being recycled anew here, there, & everywhere, one needs to keep in the back of his mind that there may be another old angle being dug up.

Think back to 2001. Wrestlemania 17. Stone Cold Steve Austin turned heel vs. the Rock and struck up an alliance with McMahon, one that wouldn't last very long. Seven years later, the scenario could play out again in Orlando. The role of Rock would be played by Triple H, who was the runner-up to Cena at the Rumble, with Cena in Austin's role. Face it, kids, there are too many haters out there for McMahon to ignore. Never mind that the insane chairman was FU'd at Tribute to the Troops last month. If McMahon is willing to reinvent the McMahon-Helmsley Era with Edge & Vicki Guerrero, why not link up with Cena, whose only real fan base consists of kids and young women?

Cena has not been a heel since 2003. I can still recall the fans in Albany cheering loudly when Edge used his 1st Money in the Bank contract to beat a weary, tired Cena at New Year's Revolution 2 years ago. The haters were in full force at MSG on Sunday, booing every appearance by Cena on video, yet going nutz when he made a surprise entry into the Rumble. Those same haters dissed Rey Mysterio for no reason, but that's another mystery to be solved later. Cena will not be doing house shows right away, as he's working on a movie in between TV appearances. To cover, they can say that he & McMahon have secretly been working together all winter long. McMahon has been focused on three different agendas of late, involving HHH, Ric Flair, & Hornswoggle. Cena can help him with one (HHH), and possibly another (Flair), if my prediction holds for Mania. Hornswoggle can factor in because an FU to the leprechaun would be symbolic, since 'Swoggle has become a favorite of the younger set lately. They can say that Cena might be jealous of losing favor with the kids. If it all means that Cena goes back to the nasty rhymes of years past, great. However, we all know that any alliance McMahon creates lasts only for a short time, and probably by the end of the summer, McMahon will get another FU for his troubles.

Most fans had either HHH or Undertaker pegged to win the Rumble. The Deadman's fate was sealed when he was the 1st man out, followed by last year's runner-up, Shawn Michaels. Factor in McMahon's hate for the Cerebral Assassin, couple it with Cena's surprise return, and, well, I think you get the idea.

And to the haters, I say, be careful what you wish for, because you might just get it.
