Tonight's program begins with an impressive video package
building up the title match between Bobby Lashley & Rob
Van Dam. In the ring is Test, who is making a strong case
for a title shot of his own, pointing out that he won the
3-way main 2 weeks ago, although Van Dam won the fan balloting.
I thought they might be able to weave the Toronto Tower into
the main event, but that's not to be.
Test vs. Sabu. Test pinned Sabu two weeks
ago to build his case, but this match wasn't quite up to the
level needed to strengthen said case. Sabu's punches were
weak, as if he were jabbing at his opponent, being too cautious.
Test hit a Yakuza kick, then the spinning TKO to clinch it,
but it's clearly noticed that Sabu fell out of the TKO a wee
bit early. Winner: Test.
Rob Van Dam is shown warming up backstage. After a break,
it's right back to the ring, where Elijah Burke & Sylvester
Turkay are already in the ring. Like Test, they don't have
their entrance shown on the air, but it isn't going to matter.
Burke talks about how it's not a question of if they'll win,
but how, either via knockout (Burke is an ex-boxer) or tap-out
(submission specialist Turkay).
Elijah Burke & Sylvester Turkay vs. The FBI.
Near-total squash. Guido & Mamaluke were overmatched from
the get-go, but Guido hung tough vs. both Burke & Turkay.
Tony Mamaluke? Not so much. Totally destroyed as soon as he
was tagged in. Burke hit an STO, then handed off to Turkay,
who locked on a standing armbar submission. Mamaluke tapped
within seconds. Winners: Elijah Burke & Sylvester Turkay.
Next week, it'll be CM Punk rematched vs. Hardcore Holly.
Matt Striker starts to "teach" how Punk can't beat
Holly, until Hardcore shows up and cuts a quick promo.
Brad Armstrong joins Joey & Tazz for the next match.
Kevin Thorn vs. Balls Mahoney. Ariel has
glammed up for the new year, looking hotter than ever. She
& Thorn spent more time making out than Thorn did competing
vs. Mahoney, who still can't buy a win over the "vampire".
Coincidentally, Scott Armstrong, Brad's brother, is the ref,
and Joey, Tazz, & Brad joke about the Armstrong family
having enough members to fill a Royal Rumble all by themselves.
Thorn hit an elbow into Mahoney's jaw, knocking him out for
a sudden pin. Scott Armstrong promptly signaled with the "X"
indicating Mahoney had been injured, possibly with a broken
jaw. Mahoney was clearly bleeding from the mouth as he was
being attended to by trainers .Winner: Kevin Thorn.
Tommy Dreamer interview. Does he have a death wish, continuing
to pursue Great Khali? No, says Tommy. It's what he does.
Bobby Lashley vs. Rob Van Dam [ECW Championship Match]
Earlier, both men were interviewed by Rebecca. RVD thanked
Lashley for getting rid of Paul Heyman & Big Show, and
thanked the fans for giving him the title shot. Lashley dominated
from the go, and even avoided the Rolling Thunder. RVD suplexed
Lashley onto the announcers' table, and intended to do a springboard
legdrop off the apron, but Lashley stood up on the table.
RVD jumped to the top turnbuckle, and hit a clothesline that
knocked the champ off the table, and both men were declared
unable to continue by ref Mickey Henson. Winner: None. Lashley
remains ECW champion. |
