Sandman vs. Sabu vs. Kevin Thorn (w/Ariel) vs. Tommy
Dreamer vs. Rob Van Dam [Over the top rope challenge: ]. 5
of the 7 "extremists" entered in the Royal Rumble
are featured in our opening bout. Way too short. Sabu eliminated
himself & Dreamer. Thorn got rid of Sandman and had his
hands full with RVD, who seemed determined to kick Thorn's
fangs down his throat with all the kicks. A superkick sent
Thorn to the apron, but RVD came off the top rope with another
kick that finished the extreme vampire.Winner: Rob Van Dam.
Hardcore Holly wants to know why he's been bumped from the
main event in favor of Test, who gets Bobby Lashley at the
Rumble. We'd all like to know, too, since no one's been tapped
to replace Paul Heyman as ECW's "representative",
or de facto GM.
Marquis Cor Van vs. Wes Adams. Total squash,
as rent-a-jobber Adams had no shot. Cor Van hit the Pounce,
then the Russian legsweep and the Fujiwara armbar.Winner:
Marquis Cor Van.
Kelly's Expose is next, with special guests Layla El from
Smackdown and newcomer Brooke Adams, called up from Deep South
for this gig. The dancing is much improved, and the credit
goes to ex-Miami Heat cheerleader Layla, I'm sure.
CM Punk vs. Elijah Burke.Matt Striker joins
Joey & Tazz for commentary, and so gets repeatedly ragged
on. Tazz won't wear the ties Striker gave him because they're
"ugly". Funny stuff. Burke proved to be a formidible
foe for Punk in what was easily the best match on the show.
Burke showed he's pretty proficient in MMA as well as boxing
and wrestling, matching kicks with Punk at one point. Punk
went for a victory roll, but Burke blocked it and tried to
grab the tights, but Punk rolled around and hooked both legs
to get the 'W'.Winner: CM Punk.
Bobby Lashley vs. Test. If this is any indication
of what to look forward to on Sunday, I'd say there's room
for improvement. Test dusted off the pumphandle slam at one
point and got a near fall, but that was the closest he was
going to get, as he was saving his finishers for the PPV.
Test made the mistake of bringing a chair into the ring and
Lashley speared him back to Tuscaloosa. One running powerslam
later, and it's over. Can Lashley do it again on Sunday with
the title on the line?Winner: Bobby Lashley. |
