Marcus Cor Van & Kevin Thorn (w/Ariel) vs. Rob Van Dam
& Sabu. A sneak preview of the 8-man tag we'll see at
Wrestlemania. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite as good as
it should've been, largely because it was too short. Ariel
now has green highlights in her hair. Doesn't fit, to tell
you the truth. It could've gone either way, but then Thorn
detained Sabu long enough for Cor Van to hit the front body
block (The Pounce), the impact of which nearly sent Sabu
to the floor. That was all she wrote. Winners: Marcus Cor
Van & Kevin Thorn. I don't think the irony's lost that
Cor Van & Thorn had just beaten a pair of former ECW
World tag team champions. With rumors that the tag titles
may finally be reactivated, this could be a preview of a
future tournament.
Gene Snitsky vs. Mike Toller.Total squash.
'Nuff said. Winner: Gene Snitsky.
Since it wasn't done last night, Joey & Tazz announce
the latest inductee into the Hall of Fame---The Original
Sheik. That makes two posthumous inductions this year, with
Curt Hennig being the other.
CM Punk vs. Hardcore Holly. Holly ended
Punk's TV winning streak just a few weeks ago, and these
guys weren't here to compare notes on Snitsky. The difference
maker in this match, though, was the involvement of the
New Breed, specifically Thorn and Elijah Burke. Burke started
off on the stage, then made his way down to ringside. He
detained ref Scott Armstrong long enough for Thorn to come
through the crowd and bounce Holly's neck off the top rope
right in full view of Punk. Not sure what to make of this
development, Mr. Straight Edge hit the Go to Sleep on Holly
to end it. Post-match, Punk was again approached by the
persistent Burke, trying to recruit Punk into the New Breed.
Punk doesn't need to be associated with these clowns. Winner:
CM Punk.
Elijah Burke vs. Tommy Dreamer. Now, the
ex-boxer has Matt Striker in his corner, with Sandman seconding
Dreamer. It's funny to hear Joey & Tazz talk about "youth"
in the New Breed, considering the oldest member of the team
is Cor Van, the ex-NFLer. Neither cornerman was a real factor
in the match, which is a good thing. Burke blocked a DDT
by holding the ropes, but as Dreamer struggled to get back
up, Burke went across the ring, pulled down his kneepads,
and hit a double-knee drive to the back, known as the Elijah
Express, and that was enough to get the win. Winner: Elijah
Burke.
Extreme Expose grooves to the beat of a remixed version
of Def Leppard's 1987 hit, "Pour Some Sugar on Me".
Kelly Kelly is still way out of step.
Bobby Lashley vs. Chris Masters (Non-title)
For all of Masters' bluster, and to use one of Keith Olbermann's
pet phrases from his ESPN days, the "Masterpiece"
was beaten like a rented goalie, or in this case, a rented
jobber. Masters thought he had Lashley primed for the Masterlock,
but Lashley avoided that and hit a full-nelson slam (called
a half-nelson slam by Joey). After a corner charge, the
champion hit the Dominator 2.0 to wrap it up. Winner: Bobby
Lashley.
