We open with a recap of last week's main event. You get
the feeling that CM Punk is looking to implode the New Breed
from within, just because he can.
Bobby Lashley vs. Umaga (non-title). 1st
of 2 Wrestlemania rematches on the card. Way too short for
comparison's sake. Chairman Wackjob is watching backstage.
On paper, it's an even matchup in terms of size & power,
though Lashley is giving away over 75 pounds to the former
IC champion. Umaga hit a Samoan Drop, and set up for the
Spike, but Lashley dodged and knocked Umaga out of the ring.
Armando Estrada, leaving his brains in the locker room,
hit Lashley with the ECW title belt (and Joey used that
word several times during the show) right in front of ref
Mike Posey for the DQ. Lashley destroyed Estrada after as
Mr. McMahon came down and had to hold Umaga back. Winner:
Bobby Lashley via DQ.
Punk isn't apologizing for trying to motivate the New Breed
last week, but he does apologize for costing Elijah Burke
his match vs. Rob Van Dam, as shown earlier. Burke, on the
other hand, isn't buying into Punk at all, unlike the others,
who've realized that Punk has much more charisma and are
willing to listen to Mr. Straight Edge. Later, Marcus Cor
Van, Kevin Thorn, & Matt Striker all reminded Burke
that it was his idea to bring Punk into the New Breed. Punk's
plan, whatever it really is, appears to be working.
Snitsky vs. Balls Mahoney.We're reminded
of how Mahoney rescued Extreme Expose's Layla El 2 weeks
ago, only to be flattened by a boot to the head. The flashback
lasted as long as this match itself. Mahoney got next to
no offense, and was summarily squashed with another boot
to the head.
Winner: Snitsky.
New Breed vs. ECW Originals (elimination tag).
The 2nd of our 2 rematches is the main event. With the elimination
format, it allows almost everyone to hit their signature
moves. Stress almost.
1st fall: Elijah Burke pinned Sandman with a rollup and
a handful of pants after Sandman missed the Rolling Rock
off the top.
2nd fall: Rob Van Dam pinned Matt Striker after a split-legged
moonsault.
3rd fall: Marcus Cor Van pinned Sabu after the Pounce, and,
yes, Joey actually called the move at long last.
4th fall: Cor Van was disqualified by outside ref Mike Posey
for crotching Tommy Dreamer on the barricade. This is rarely
called to begin with, but how else to eliminate the Alpha
Male?
5th fall: Dreamer pinned Kevin Thorn after a DDT. Thorn,
and for that matter, Striker, was treated more like a rent-a-jobber,
and saw very little ring time in comparison to team captain
Burke.
6th fall: Burke pinned Dreamer after the Elijah Express.
7th fall: Van Dam pinned Burke after the 5 Star Frogsplash.
For the 2nd straight week, RVD owes a debt of thanks to
CM Punk, who was forced to sit at ringside by a jealous
Burke. Late in the match. Burke attempted a flip over the
top into the ring, but was met by a kick from RVD. Punk
left his seat and hit a roundhouse kick to the back of the
head. RVD then hit the 5 Star to end it. Post-match, Punk
helped Burke up, then hit the Go To Sleep as the crowd chanted
his name.
Winners: Originals (RVD was the lone survivor).
