After 2 weeks of using the classic ECW music, we now have
a new theme, artist as yet unidentified.
We open with Matt Striker's Classroom. The guest is, surprisingly,
the Boogeyman. Matt discusses the scientific uses of worms
in terms of plant life and the earth in general. Boogey
says nothing, opting instead to---what else?---eat from
a jar of worms supplied by Striker. We're reminded of the
last encounter between these two on the 6/26 show. Striker,
though, now has someone to avenge his humiliation at the
hands of Boogey, and that man is Big Daddy V, formerly Viscera,
who has cut his bleached blond mohawk and now has dark hair,
cut very thin. V hits a front slam on Boogey, but doesn't
break the desk, and after two tries, succeeds in putting
Boogeyman through the chalkboard
Elijah Burke vs. Balls Mahoney. All four
matches tonight involve ECW "Originals".Typical
Mahoney match, meaning he gets a minimum of offense and
otherwise gets dominated. Burke hits the Elijah Express
straight up into Mahoney's face, and puts him away. Winner:
Elijah Burke.
CM Punk vs. Stevie Richards. They keep
cutting back to ECW Champ Johnny Nitro backstage watching
the match on a monitor. Richards gives a very good accounting
of himself, and as he exchanges kicks with Punk, you see
that Richards is like a scout team, approximating Nitro
in terms of moveset, if not the actual moves. Punk &
Nitro could steal the show at the Bash. Richards went for
a tornado DDT, but Punk countered that and hit the Go To
Sleep. Ballgame. Winner: CM Punk.
Mike Mizanin acquaints himself with old foe Layla El and
her Extreme Expose teammates, Brooke & Kelly, the latter
of whom seems quite taken with Miz, prompting Layla to squeal
after Miz leaves, "You've got a crush!", at Kelly.
Seems that Layla & Miz have both put their past feud
behind them. For now.
Mike Mizanin vs. Nunzio. Were it not for
Punk-Richards, part XVIII, this would be a Match of the
Night candidate. Good stuff, continuing the maturation of
Mizanin as a wrestler. Good amateur chain wrestling to start.
Have to credit Nunzio for that. The Sicilian Shooter made
Miz work for this "W". Plenty of near falls on
both sides before Miz ends it with the Mizard of Oz. Note
how he tucked Nunzio's head in. Not as much separation with
the victim as usual. Winner: Mike Mizanin.
Johnny Nitro vs. Tommy Dreamer (extreme rules, non-title).
Rematch from last week, but under old school ECW hardcore
rules. At first, Nitro is loathe to use the plunder supplied
by Dreamer and clears all but a steel crutch from the ring.
He destroys the crutch by breaking it repeatedly over the
back of Dreamer. Tommy sends a receipt along in the form
of stuffing a garbage can over Nitro's head in the tree
of woe and hitting a dropkick. Ouch! Nitro hit a drop toehold,
knocking Dreamer onto the top of a chair for the winning
pin, although he didn't need to put his foot on the rope.
Winner: Johnny Nitro.
