We start with a recap from last week, setting up tonight's main event. After our (almost) weekly dose of Marilyn Manson, the fun's about to start.....
Match 1: Boogeyman vs. Jesse Guilmette Squashola! Guilmette's only offense consisted of some forearm shivers that Boogey barely sold after missing a corner charge. Figuring he needs to change his moveset to prepare for Big Daddy V, Boogey goes airborne and hits a top rope Superfly splash to gain the fall. Winner: Boogeyman. Post-match, Boogey serves up some regurgitated worms to Guilmette, only to be interrupted by Matt Striker, who holds Boogey's attention long enough for the dweller from the bottomless pit to be thrashed and left lying again by Big Daddy V.
Match 2: Elijah Burke vs. Tommy Dreamer This spins out of last week's 3-way dance, sort of like a loser's bracket match. The turning point in the match, really, came when Burke slammed Dreamer off the apron. Tommy started selling his back at that point, and it would be the difference. Dreamer went for a superplex, but then clutched his back. Burke hopped off and hit a hot shot, knocking Dreamer back to the canvas. Burke raced in and hit the Elijah Express to get back on the winning track. Winner: Elijah Burke. ECW World Champ John Morrison is interviewed. He believes that no one will remember CM Punk after tonight. Riiiiiiight.
Match 3: Mike Mizanin (w/Extreme Expose) vs. Balls Mahoney Return match from last week, but much sloppier on both sides. Mahoney was supposed to go sailing over the top, but didn't make it, and had to go under the bottom rope to sell the move. Kelly Kelly showed some concern. Miz took over on offense from there, but couldn't get Mahoney up for a simple bodyslam. Couldn't complete the move in 2 tries. That's a buzzkiller right there. Anyway, Mahoney was finished off with the Reality Check (kneelift/neckbreaker combo) for the 2nd straight week. Winner: Mike Mizanin. CM Punk serves up a rebuttal to John Morrison's remarks from earlier. Simply put, Punk's preparation for the match is focus & dedication.
Raw Rebound recaps the return of "Mr. McMahon". We'll probably see this again on Friday. For what it's worth, and I might as well get this in, Smackdown ring announcer Tony Chimel is filling in for Justin Roberts tonight.
After recapping the Stevie Richards-Kevin Thorn feud over the last two weeks, Richards is interviewed, only to be ambushed and left lying by a vengeful Thorn.
Match 4: John Morrison vs. CM Punk (15:00 of Fame challenge.
non-title) The onus is on the champion to win to keep
Punk away from another shot at the title. Punk at the least
has to go the full 15:00 to earn that title match. This
easily was the best match on the card, heck, it even topped
the entire Raw card last night! Some stalling early to "feel
each other out", even though this is the 3rd singles meeting
between the two in the last two months. The two traded enziguris
during the course of the contest. Morrison hit the spinning
legdrop for 2, but misfired on a corkscrew moonsault off
the 2nd rope. That, in reality, was the beginning of the
end for the ECW champion. An attempted springboard enziguri
was botched as Morrison slipped off the rope, but hit the
more conventional enziguri for 2. Went for the corkscrew
neckbreaker, but Punk slipped out and hit the Go To Sleep.
Good night, sweet prince! Punk-Morrison IV will be at Summerslam!
Winner: CM Punk.
