Tonight's recap covers all the key issues, starting with Awesome Kong winning the women's title. Outside the arena, Kurt & Karen Angle and AJ Styles arrive in a limo, with Kurt & Styles still wearing the same tuxedos from last week. Eric Young shows up babbling about something, so Kurt lets him into the limo and closes the door. Kurt's hoping, of course, that Styles wins the 3-way main event over Samoa Joe & Christian Cage so that the champ doesn't have to defend the TNA title until Lockdown in April.

In the ring, Jay Lethal and the Motor City Machine Guns answer Team 3D's challenge from last week, and have a stipulation of their own. If they win, a weight limit will be imposed for the first time in the X division. 275 pounds. Team 3D & Johnny Devine come out, with Brother Ray as the spokesman. Ray claims to be 275, but Devon is over 300 because he's preparing for Mr. Olympia, if you can believe that. Ray even rips on Awesome Kong. They shake hands, but it's the faces who attack and chase Team 3D & Devine from the arena. Matt Morgan & security come down to break up the fight, and Morgan has to restrain Lethal.

Crystal interviews Abyss. His secret will be revealed "over my dead body", the man-monster declares.

A video overview of Shark Boy's injury troubles is shown, culminating in last week's squash loss to Tomko. "Sunday", Jeremy Borash was sent to Shark Boy's home for an interview. They might as well put the guy on the "disabled list".

Match 1: Tomko vs. Eric Young It takes the intervention of Sonjay Dutt to get Eric to leave the limo for the match. Protracted squash. Young's best offensive move was a fireman's carry slam (FU) on Tomko, who then rolled out of the way of an attempted Asai moonsault. Young staggered to his feet, only to be put down again by a simple lariat. Winner: Tomko.

Post-match, James Storm came down to try to claim the Drinking Championship belt that Young brought with him. He hit the helicopter slam on Young and talked trash. Storm & Jackie Moore offered Tomko a beer. They had a toast, but Tomko then turned on Storm, booted him in the gut, and tossed him out. Tomko then gave the belt and his beer to Young.

Crystal is with Christian Cage, who puts over Tomko standing on his own, and cuts a promo on AJ Styles, ripping on Karen Angle as he goes. He also talks up the main event.

Back from break, and Crystal is now with Dustin Rhodes, who apparently is looking for Misty the rat, the companion of his alter ego Black Reign. He's "convulsing", after a fashion, and Crystal sends the cameraman away......

Match 2: ODB vs. Angelina Love Mike Tenay confirms that ODB is a acronym for "One Dirty B**ch". Pretty even contest, but Angelina's stock seems to have dropped in recent weeks. She hits a modified jawbreaker for 2, and a pump kick for another near fall. ODB passes on her usual 1-2 finish (Dirty Dozens/Thesz Press), and instead hits a running powerslam to end it. Winner: ODB.

Post-match, ODB cuts a promo on Awesome Kong, challenging the women's champion to a match at Against All Odds. With Gail Kim suffering a "concussion" last week, the path's been cleared for Kong to have a fresh feud.

Crystal heads for the dressing room of Kevin Nash, and helps the fans listen in on a pep talk Nash gives to Samoa Joe.

Back to the "Deep Blue Sea". Chris Harris is at Shark Boy's bedside, along with the masked man's family. Harris complains about this being the only way he gets TV time, and rips into Borash for spending too much time with Kurt Angle (too true). LAX (Homicide, Hernandez, & Salinas (Shelly Martinez)) enters and begins pilfering items from the room. Looks like a heel turn for LAX, doesn't it?

Match 3: Senshi vs. Kaz Two former X division champions meet in our next bout, and any other time, this would get more time and be a match of the year candidate. However, this is Senshi's final appearance, and he goes out fighting. Good match, but just too short. Kaz hit the swinging dropkick in the corner (think Jeff Hardy) before finishing off Senshi with the Wave of the Future. Winner: Kaz.

Post-match, Black Reign shows up and hits Kaz with his staff, Darkness Falls. Reign goes after the cage that supposedly is holding his pet, Misty, but finds it's empty, and slams it into Kaz's head. Security has to pry him away.

Backstage, Borash is now with James Mitchell, who has Judas Mesias standing in the background. The secret will soon be revealed.

After the break, Jeremy is with Tomko & Styles, and Prince Pinhead (AJ) asks Tomko what he should do should he win the 3-way. Give me a break. The answer's obvious.

Match 4: Abyss vs. Lance Hoyt (w/Jimmy Rave) No sign of Christy Hemme for a 2nd week, so Rave plays manager. Unfortunately, he's about as helpful as an empty can of beans. That is to say, Rave's attempts at interference fail badly. James Mitchell comes out halfway and has a cameraman follow him to the back. That gives Hoyt a respite and an opportunity for offense. However, after hitting a reverse F5, Hoyt goes up top for a moonsault, but Abyss is already out of the way by the time Hoyt jumps. Hoyt staggers into the path of the Black Hole Slam. 'Nuff said. Winner: Abyss.

Mitchell appears on the video screen. The secret? Chris Parks, aka Abyss, is "really" the sinister minister's son. In a way, this revisits an old storyline involving Kane from about, oh, 10 years ago. Grist for the Reaction Zone.

Crystal tries to get a word from Abyss, but he motions for the cameraman to leave.

Match 5: Robert Roode (w/Peyton Banks) vs. Sonjay Dutt According to Mike Tenay, Sharmell is out of the hospital and back home in Houston, recovering from what happened a week and a half ago at Final Resolution. Pretty even match early on, but Banks' interference with Dutt attempting a springboard move draws Traci Brooks into the fray. Despite Earl Hebner's attempt to send her back to the locker room before the break, Traci convinced him to let her stay and even the sides. Banks wasn't a factor again after that. Dutt hit a seated springboard senton splash for 2, but when he tried again, Roode hit the top rope, causing Dutt to tumble. Roode hit the Payoff, and that was it. Winner: Robert Roode.

Post-match, Roode taunted Traci, and lured her in, setting up a catfight with Banks. Roode then went after Brooks, who promptly slapped him. Banks would get the upper hand and return the slap. She then took off her boot, but Matt Morgan interceded, with Roode & Banks escaping to fight another day. Maybe Matt will finally get to wrestle? Let's hope.

Jeremy is now with Karen Angle & AJ Styles. Stop the pain.

"Day 3", and Angelina Love & Velvet Sky pay Shark Boy a visit. I think we as viewers are in pain, worse than Shark Boy.

Voodoo Kin Mafia are in the ring, and Kip James is tired of waiting to find out who BG's new partner is. Well, worry no more. BG intends to fulfill one more dream, and that would be to tag with none other than his father, "Bullet" Bob Armstrong, 67 years young. Now we have a "family reunion", as we have a group hug, except for Roxxi Laveaux, who probably doesn't know what a smile feels like.

One last visit to the "shark tank". Eric Young visits, and rallies Shark Boy to wake up. He does, and does a Steve Austin impression, shoving the doctor aside.

Match 6: Christian Cage vs. Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles Now, this is what a triple threat match is supposed to be like. An elimination match. Before the match, Kurt Angle comes out and cuts a promo plugging the Global Impact special coming up next.

As the match begins, it's a glorified handicap match, with Cage & Joe united against Styles. That was obvious. Joe blocked a Styles suicide dive with a kick to the head. Moments later, Joe hit a suicide dive of his own on Cage & Styles, and at that point, we went to commercial. Back from break, and the melee is still on full blast. Styles hit a flying forearm off the top on Cage, but could only get 2. Styles went for the Styles Clash, but Cage countered into a Texas Cloverleaf submission, breaking the hold as he caught sight of Joe out of the corner of his eye. Joe has Cage in the Kokina Clutch, but Styles comes back with a chair. He uses it on both Joe & Cage, but after Joe kicks the chair back at Styles, the Samoan dumps the chair from the ring. Ref Rudy Charles, however, thinks Joe used it instead of Styles (he was bumped down when Cage's legs hit him in the head), and DQd Joe, who understandably goes berserk. Matt Morgan comes out, and Joe shoves Charles into him. Kevin Nash comes out and separates Joe & Morgan, and tries to tell Joe that he's got to think things through.

Now, it's down to Cage & Styles. Cage misses the frogsplash, and Styles tries to take advantage. He hits the Pele kick, but can only get 2. Cage tries again, but this time Styles gets the knees up to block the splash. Styles, feeling bold, decides to try the Unprettier, Cage's finisher, but Cage blocks and hits the Unprettier himself. Ballgame. Winner: Christian Cage.

TNA serves up a special travelogue of its recent visit to Japan. This show chronicles the events leading up to the card on 1/4 at the Tokyo Dome, Japan's answer to Madison Square Garden as the "mecca of sports & entertainment". The talent spotlighted includes Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Tomko, Christian Cage, & Scott Steiner. If you've seen the commercials, you know that it's Tomko who has his back to you below the Global Impact logo.

Steiner, Angle, Brother Ray, and others let their hair down, if you will, as they're being interviewed. The mood is a little more relaxed than it would be in the Impact Zone back in Orlando. Archived footage is shown of the Steiners and Angle, mixed in with the interviews with Scott Steiner and Angle.

Tomko is shown heading to Gold's Gym in Tokyo for a pre-show workout the day before "Wrestle Kingdom" (the 1/4 show). Kurt Angle is on a press tour culminating in a press conference. Giant Bernard (A-Train) is included. Team 3D is looking for their opponents, who supposedly were scheduled to be at the conference. Angle, meanwhile, talks about being the "real" IWGP champion, having beaten Brock Lesnar last year to win the title. I have read that New Japan has since installed someone else as IWGP champion since Angle's primary commitment to TNA precludes him from traveling to Japan as frequently as New Japan would like, it seems.

Highlights are shown of undercard matches. Though they're feuding now here in the States, AJ Styles & Christian Cage were tag partners on this night, teaming with "Maple Leaf Muscles" Petey Williams to win a 6-man opener. Abyss dropped a match to Nakanishi, and in a post-match press conference, asked for a rematch down the road. Maybe TNA could sign Nakanishi? Team 3D won their match, and Ray said in his post-fight comments that he & Devon have never lost in Japan. Have to check the records on that one. Tomko & Giant Bernard beat the Steiners, and Tomko is crowing about how the IWGP tag champs are "visually" the best team in the world. Bernard is wearing a singlet that looks like he bought it from the estate of Bam Bam Bigelow.

Kurt Angle vs. Yuji Nagata (IWGP title) It's been a while since American audiences have seen Nagata on TV. He previously had spent some time here working for WCW in the late 90's. In pre-fight comments, Nagata clarified what I referred to earlier. After beating Lesnar for the IWGP title, Kurt had not defended the title at all in Japan, and thus Nagata, and presumably virtually all of Japan, doesn't consider Angle the true IWGP champion.

Mike Tenay & Don West are calling the action, although likely from the safety of TNA's television studio back in Orlando.

Angle attacks before the opening bell, and exchanges suplexes with Nagata early on. Tenay acknowledges that New Japan has installed a "interim" IWGP champion while Angle remains in the US. Angle applies a figure four leglock, which Tenay tells us was taught to Kurt by the Destroyer, although it could just as easily have been Jeff Jarrett. Nagata forces a rope break, and gets back on offense with an armbar submission. As we take one final commercial break, it looks as though Kurt may have to tap out, but will he?

Back from break, and Angle has forced a rope break of his own, then hit the rolling German suplexes. Nagata went for what we call here in the US the 3 Amigos, but Angle blocked the 3rd suplex. Time and again, Nagata applied a crossface submission, but couldn't put Angle away. Nagata hit a running knee to the head in the corner (think CM Punk), but that wasn't enough either. He went for a buzzkick, but Angle blocked and applied the anklelock for the final time, grapevining the leg for added pressure. Nagata struggled and strained, but it was just too much, and he finally tapped out. Winner: Kurt Angle.

Post-match, in a show of sportsmanship sorely lacking in TNA, Angle shakes hands with Nagata and embraces him. These two have been through a war.

Global Impact will be available on DVD, according to a commercial advertisement. Hence, this show was a glorified infomercial. This may be one DVD worth getting.
