We open with a montage of clips, starting with the return
of Jeff Jarrett last week, leading to the Lethal Lockdown
match this past Sunday. In the ring, Mike Tenay brings out
Jarrett. It is still a little disconcerting hearing that music
and seeing Jarrett as a babyface, something he hasn't been
in too long a time. The gist of the speech is this. After
20 years in the business, Jarrett wants to make changes in
his life and career. He points out how much Sting has given
back since he returned last year, and now Jarrett wants to
do the same. Kurt Angle comes out. I guess Jarrett and his
writing team would rather have Angle as a tweener now, as
Kurt has a problem with Jarrett giving away his title shot,
allowing Sting to collect the fall at Lockdown. Sting comes
out, and interprets this as a personal affront against him.
He says that if it wasn't for men like him & Jarrett paving
the way, Angle would've parlayed his Olympic gold medals into
a job as a phys-ed teacher. Ouch! Angle & Sting will meet
next week to determine who indeed gets Christian Cage at Sacrifice.
Backstage, Team Cage is in a surprisingly happy mood, and
that's because Cage has weaseled his way into getting a shot
at Team 3D for the NWA tag titles later, with Abyss as his
partner. On paper, given Cage's past history as a tag champion,
this should be a good bout, with 3D tested right away. Of
course, it's TNA, so you have to check your brain at the door.
Christopher Daniels vs. Rhino vs. AJ Styles vs. Samoa
Joe. A fatal four-way with nothing at stake? What
a shock, eh? Daniels comes out with a Sting mask and the bat.
Some bad editing as you'd think Styles would've sprinted to
the tunnel from Cage's dressing room. For a time, Styles &
Daniels, the former tag champs, work together on old nemesis
Samoa Joe, but Joe fights them off. It comes down to Daniels
& Rhino, and with ref Earl Hebner busy with Styles &
Joe on the floor, Daniels hits Rhino with the bat. Poor timing
by Hebner, as he had to pretend not to be in visual range
of the infraction. He was getting back into the ring, then
had to turn around for a few extra seconds while Daniels moved
the evidence away. A waste of four solid talents.Winner: Christopher
Daniels.Post-match, Joe confronted Daniels. After a replay,
Styles & Joe were having at it in the ring while Daniels
started up the ramp. It's a little ironic in that Rhino, who
tried to keep Styles & Daniels from feuding with each
other last fall, was the one pinned by Daniels.
Robert Roode (w/Ms. Brooks & Eric Young) vs. Chris
Harris. Gail Kim came out with Harris, but was ambushed
by Jackie Moore and never heard from again. They're still
working the half-blind gimmick with Harris, but that in the
long run just isn't going to work. James Storm came out to
the ramp to watch, swigging a beer. Tenay said it'll be Storm
vs. Harris in a Texas Death match at Sacrifice, a match that
Jim Cornette has washed his hands of. Harris took his eye
off the ball---literally---as he was distracted by Storm,
allowing Roode to grab Harris' handcuffs and use them as a
weapon to gain another tainted win. Winner: Robert Roode.
Harris could've won the match had it not been for Brooks pulling
ref Rudy Charles out of the ring, then blaming it on Young.
Roode berated Young again after Young pushed Brooks to the
floor. We can see she's wearing pantyhose. Roode demanded
to know who Young's secret friend is. It isn't Petey Williams
after all, but Roode wants to know who it is by next week,
or Eric's gone. This
Team 3D vs. Christian Cage & Abyss (w/Jim Mitchell)
(NWA tag titles). Way too short of a match. LAX was
at ringside, with Konnan doing color commentary, upset that
his team hasn't gotten a rematch yet. Well, if he paid attention
to Cage's comments at the top of the show, he'd realize he's
barking up the wrong tree this time. No mention of the fact
that Cage has been a prolific tag team titlist himself, but
they put over big time that Team 3D has now completed the
career grand slam. They know Cage so well, of course, from
their days in WWE (2000-05). What should've been a 10-12 minute
match ends up a protracted squash with the heels getting just
enough offense. Abyss put Devon in the Electric Chair, and
Cage went for I would assume the Doomsday Device, but Devon
got out and pushed Abyss to the corner, crotching Cage. Abyss
ate a 3D and that was it. Winners: Team 3D.
Back from break, Cage is up in Abyss' area, upset over the
loss. Cage spits at Abyss. Big mistake. Abyss attacks Cage,
then Mitchell. Team Cage comes down, but Abyss fights them
off long enough to hit the Black Hole Slam on Mitchell. They
pile on Abyss again, leaving him lying, decimated and lacerated
after a series of chair shots and whacks with a barbed wire
coated baseball bat, leading to Cage hitting the conchairto. |
