We begin, after the usual recap, with Jim Cornette rounding
up Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, & AJ Styles backstage for a
meeting......
Team 3D & Voodoo Kin Mafia vs. Basham, Damaja
(w/Christy Hemme), & the Steiner Brothers When
this was taped, it was supposed to be a preview for 2 tag
team matches at Slammiversary on Sunday. With Scott Steiner
now injured, the tag title match is in jeopardy. Way too short,
and not enough interaction between the Steiners & Team
3D until just before the finish, when they brawled to the
floor. Christy ran in and sprayed mace in Kip James' eyes,
leading to Doug Basham pinning him with an unnecessary handful
of tights. Not good.Winners: Basham, Damaja, & the Steiner
Brothers.
Cornette's office, the TNA Management rep reams out Joe, Angle,
& Styles. He calls Styles a "blithering moron"
and a "sock puppet", the latter in reference to
his association with Christian Cage. The trio will be matched
against Tomko, Sting, & Rhino in the next match.
Tomko, Sting, & Rhino vs. Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe,
& AJ Styles.
The storyline was that Angle's team wouldn't be able to co-exist.
However, the opposition is down one, seemingly by design,
as Tomko is found backstage with some electrical cords wrapped
around his neck. After a commercial break, Angle wanted to
tag out, but Styles & Joe got off the apron, and Angle
left himself wide open for a Stinger Splash. Toward the end,
Christopher Daniels came running down, ostensibly as a replacement
for Tomko, but as soon as he was tagged in, he hit Sting with
the Last Rites, and Angle pinned Sting. Winners: Kurt Angle,
Samoa Joe, & AJ Styles. Angle, Joe, & Styles retain
their spots in the King of the Mountain match. Sting now will
face Daniels at the PPV.
Jeremy Borash interviewed Chris Harris & Hector Guerrero.
Hector cut a promo on Konnan in Spanish. Harris & Rhino
face LAX on Sunday. We also saw a recap of the Slammiversary
press conference as shown last week, specifically an angle
between James Storm and ex-Tennessee Titans tight end Frank
Wycheck, who whacked Storm over the head with a guitar.
Christian Cage vs. Abyss (King of the Mountain qualifier).
The crowd popped when Abyss' music hit. Cage freaked out big
time. Standard stuff, but another crap finish. Cage distracted
ref Rudy Charles, allowing Tomko, who'd recovered from the
earlier attack, to run in and attack Abyss. Cage hit the frogsplash,
but only got a 2. Abyss hit the Shock Treatment for 2, and
hit a Black Hole Slam, but this time Tomko occupied the ref.
Styles came back out with a chair, but Abyss pulled a Paul
Wight stunt and punched the chair. He ended up using the chair
on Cage, then Charles, costing himself the title shot. Winner:
Christian Cage via DQ. Abyss cleaned house on the heels, and
then fought off security when they tried restraining him.
Team Cage came back and Cage pulled out a barbed wire baseball
bat. Abyss kicked him in the gut and freed himself. His black
bag had broken shards of glass in it instead of the usual
thumbtacks. The heels fled to end the show. |
