Match 1: Mickie James & Ashley Massaro vs. Jillian Hall & Beth Phoenix Ashley never got into the match, as Mickie was so determined to avenge herself on the women's champion, she had no inclination to tag out. That would prove costly. Mickie went for the MickieDT on Beth, but Jillian interrupted, and it turned into a headscissor takedown that sent Hall out of the ring. The champion recovered with a double sledge to the head, then the fisherman buster. Winners: Jillian Hall & Beth Phoenix.Vince McMahon makes it official: Orton vs. Cena at No Way Out, but what to do about Wrestlemania? William Regal has the answer: The Elimination Chamber, last used at ECW December to Dismember in 2006. It otherwise has been a Raw-exclusive match, so scotch the idea of Smackdown getting this match. The field consists of Umaga, Shawn Michaels, JBL, Chris Jericho, Jeff Hardy, & Triple H. HBK & HHH have won this event before. Regal wishes them good luck and may God have mercy on their souls. Ex-NFL & XFL announcer---and former NFL player---Mike Adamle makes his Raw debut, and previews the tag team double main event: Umaga & Snitsky vs. HHH & a mystery partner, and JBL & Orton vs. Hardy & Jericho. Adamle is also the original host of "American Gladiators", so it'll be interesting if they do crossovers with the current series.
Match 2: Carlito (w/Santino Marella & Maria) vs. Cody Rhodes (w/Hardcore Holly) Last week, the former US & IC champion defeated Holly, so now he's looking for the sweep. Why Marella isn't wrestling here, I don't know. Of late, all he's good for is distracting opponents. I think Marty Elias officiated Carlito-Holly last week, too. You'd think he'd be wise to this, but he's not. The goldbricking Marella hops on the apron and draws Cody's attention, prompting Holly to chase, and the camera misses Carlito hitting the backstabber. Winner: Carlito. Triple H & Shawn Michaels are backstage, discussing the Elimination Chamber, but that is 3 weeks away, and Hunter needs a partner for tonight. Shawn leaves to make a quick change of shirts. DX rides again later tonight vs. Snitsky & Umaga.
With the Super Bowl right around the corner, that means Candice Michelle is doing another ad for GoDaddy.com. Candi takes us to the set of the ad.
Match 3: DX vs. Snitsky & Umaga In the course of doing their pre-match schtick, HHH got in a cheap shot on Michael Buffer, accusing him of gimmick infringement, when everyone knows that it's really the other way around. Hunter started doing his Buffer parody 10 years ago while Buffer was shilling main events for WCW. HHH & Snitsky start, picking up where they left off in the gauntlet match last week. After Snitsky misses an elbow drop, Michaels is tagged in. He hits the flying forearm, nips up, and after nailing Umaga trying to sneak in, goes up top, but Umaga knocks him to the floor with a savate kick. Michaels is face in peril from that point. Naturally, HHH gets the hot tag, and cleans up on Snitsky AND Umaga. Umaga hit a Samoan drop on the Game, but as he played to the crowd, HBK hit him with the superkick, then hit a somersault plancha over the top to get rid of the Samoan Bulldozer. Snitsky ate the spinebuster and had his pedigree checked. End of story. Winners: DX. Here's a meeting of the minds, as Randy Orton & JBL talk up the main event and look ahead to Wrestlemania. The 10 gallon blowhard is so sure he's winning the Elimination Chamber, but is offended when Orton tells him he can beat the former champ. However, they agree to deal with their respective nemeses--Jeff Hardy & Chris Jericho---individually, but if John Cena should appear, they'll gang up on him. JBL does have some unfinished business with Cena dating back 3 years.
Todd Grisham interviews Jeff Hardy. To the IC champion, last night's loss to Randy Orton wasn't the end of the road for him, just the beginning. He's looking forward to getting into the Elimination Chamber and moving on to Wrestlemania. Vince is upset with Hornswoggle, whom he feels let him down at the Rumble. He reams out the little guy and throws him out of the office, throwing 'Swoggle's hat behind the sofa after 'Swoggle leaves.
Match 4: Mr. Kennedy vs. Brian Kendrick Squashola. Kendrick made the first move, running to the ring, then slapping Kennedy in the face. No mention of the fact that Kendrick was trained by HBK. Not even Kennedy making note of it. Kendrick missed a missle dropkick off the top, and that was all Kennedy needed. One Mic Check later, and it was over. Winner: Mr. Kennedy. Post-match, Kennedy cut a promo revealing that he asked for and got a match vs. Ric Flair at No Way Out. Flair came out and rebutted with a short promo. "I've got two things to say", Flair said, "Good luck, and WOOOOOOO!". And to think Kennedy was among those who congratulated Flair last night after the Nature Boy dispatched MVP.
Match 5: Melina vs. Maria (w/Santino Marella) On paper, you'd think this would be another squash. When was the last time Maria won a singles match, anyway? Answer: Never, to my knowledge. However, as they've been teasing that Maria will be the next Diva to pose for Playboy, with Santino firmly against it, Melina, who went on a crusade against Playboy cover maidens last year, is ironically Maria's 1st victim. Maria hit a butt splash and the bronco buster, leading to Melina hitting a hot shot on the 2nd turnbuckle. Match ends with Melina trying to pull Maria down by the pants, exposing her leopard-print panties, but Maria sits down and hooks both legs. Winner: Maria. Post-match, Marella wrapped his jacket around Maria's waist, upset about Maria being pantsed, and cuts a promo to get heel heat. Todd Grisham interviews Chris Jericho. We saw a new, more violent Jericho last night, and Jericho wants to reaquaint that side with JBL in the main event----NEXT!
Match 6: Jeff Hardy & Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton & John Bradshaw Layfield The first time ever for Orton & JBL as a team, but we have seen Hardy & Jericho team recently. Decent match, but there isn't enough time to make this really as scintillating--to use one of JR's favorite words---as the individual matches they had last night. Jericho & Hardy both hit their finishers early, which isn't a good sign. JBL pulled Orton out from under Hardy on the cover after the Swanton, and after that Hardy was face in peril. Jericho gets back in off the hot tag, and at first seems to have things well in hand. Hardy is looking to intercept Orton, who cuts off the Whisper in the Wind by sending Jeff flying to the floor. While ref Mike Chioda is checking Hardy, and Jericho has JBL locked in the Walls of Jericho, Orton sneaks in and hits the RKO, returning the favor from JBL from Armageddon last month. Winners: Randy Orton & John Bradshaw Layfield. Post-match, John Cena returns, but JBL leaves Orton behind. Shoulder tackle and a FU put the champion down, while the former champ stands tall, and JBL nowhere in sight.
