No theme music tonight. We go straight to the arena, and the #1 contender for the WWE title, Triple H, opens the show. A year ago, the Cerebral Assassin was stuck in a wheelchair having to watch Wrestlemania 23 from the backstage area in Detroit. This year, he will be in the Raw main event vs. Randy Orton. Ah, but here's the champ. Orton says it's gone full circle, as he now faces his former mentor once again. Actually, it came full circle when he fought John Cena last night, but we'll not go into details. Naturally, Cena is out, and cracks that Orton is the first WWE champ to lose his way to Mania and to have an asterisk next to his name, an obvious shot at Barry Bonds and the baseball steroids scandal. Cena wants Orton in a title rematch tonight. However, GM William Regal comes out to the stage, sporting a new haircut. Regal announces that it will be a non-title match between Cena & Orton. If Cena wins he makes it a 3-way match at Mania. Hunter's unhappy, and it doesn't help matters when Regal makes him the special referee.

Match 1: Jeff Hardy vs. Snitsky (non-title)(Money in the Bank qualifier) Yes, it's that time of year again, as the field is being filled for Money in the Bank IV at Wrestlemania. Jim Ross mis-speaks when he says all of the previous MITB winners have gone on to win titles. Last year's winner, Ken Kennedy, lost his contract when he was challenged by Edge (due to Kennedy suffering an injury) rather abruptly on Raw.

Hardy comes out to new theme music to promote the new WWE CD. He's also selling the effects of being in the Elimination Chamber last night, battered and sore. Snitsky takes advantage early, but before the commercial, Hardy tries for the Swanton after a swinging dropkick in the corner. Snitsky crotches him on top, and kicks him to the floor. Back from break, Snitsky presses the advantage with a series of running elbow drops, but can only get 2. Hardy starts fighting back, and barely connects, if at all, really, with the Whisper in the Wind for 2. He tries the Twist of Fate, but Snitsky blocks and boots him in the face for 2. Pumphandle slam is blocked and countered into the Twist, and this time Jeff hits the Swanton. Game over. Winner: Jeff Hardy.

Hardy goes on to Money in the Bank for the 2nd straight year. Members of the rock band Endeavor are at ringside to take high-fives from Jeff on his way out. Jerry Lawler pulls out his cell phone to text a vote on whether or not Maria should pose for Playboy. How pathetic is this? The deal is done already, but they want you to believe it isn't.

Footage is shown from last night's confrontation between the returning Big Show and boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr.. Show ended up with a broken nose as a result. Mayweather and Rey Mysterio are backstage and Mayweather will appear later.

Shawn Michaels is out to announce the first inductee in the class of 2008 in the WWE Hall of Fame. None other than Ric Flair. Classic footage we've seen time and again is played anew. HBK leads the crowd one big group "Woooooo!". One day, Shawn himself will follow the Nature Boy into the Hall.

Match 2: Paul Burchill (w/Katie) vs. Super Crazy Crazy is treated like a rent-a-jobber, already in the ring as Burchill is introduced. What does that tell you? El squashola. Crazy barely if at all gets any offense in, and Burchill ends it emphatically with a curb stomp (surfboard faceplant), which last week was a set up move. Winner: Paul Burchill.

Big Show is backstage, reunited with Shane McMahon as his advisor. The 5-time world champion will be out after the break.

Backstage, Triple H is on the cellphone with someone when Randy Orton barges in. Orton wants his former teacher swing things his way in the main event, but Hunter's not buying. Or is he?

The footage from last night is replayed again. Big Show is out and issues a public apology for his actions. He calls out Floyd Mayweather, who comes out with his entourage. He accepts Show's apology with a handshake, but as Team Mayweather leaves, Show cuts a promo on Mayweather and challenges him to a match. Mayweather accepts. We're not sure if it's a boxing or wrestling match----yet.

Money in the Bank highlight reel is up now. 3 years worth of footage.

Match 3: Mr. Kennedy vs. Val Venis (Money in the Bank qualifier) Squashola #2. Val recently came off the disabled list (elbow), and Kennedy exploits the injury by ramming Venis shoulder first into the post twice. Just noticed something. Ref John Cone could pass for Michael Cole's twin brother, if they let him grow a mustache. Val tries to rally, but the pain in his left arm is such that Kennedy is able to block the Blue Thunder bomb. Reverse whip, and Val puts his head down. Big mistake. Boot to the gut leads right to the mic check. Good night, sweet prince! Winner: Mr. Kennedy.

Kennedy won the MITB last year. Can he make it 2 in a row?

The cage is being lowered. Can Hornswoggle make it two in a row over Mr. McMahon?

Match 4: Hornswoggle (w/Finlay) vs. Vince McMahon (cage match) Squashola #3. Finlay, understandably, is protesting this barbaric idea of "tough love", but just as he backs out of the cage, John Bradshaw Layfield slams the door into the back of the Fighting Irishman. He handcuffs Finlay to the ropes and beats him down. Vince takes off his belt and whips 'Swoggle, then Finlay. 'Swoggle acts like he's crying. That convinces McMahon to leave the ring and leave 'Swoggle to the 10 Gallon Coward. JBL beats down 'Swoggle some more, ending with a Last Call fallaway slam into the cage, knocking 'Swoggle out. Showing concern, Vince calls for the medics while Finlay is screaming for revenge, and to be freed of the cuffs before the cage goes back up. Winner: None.

It wasn't that long ago that Hornswoggle hired JBL & Ron Simmons to help him out in a recent match, reforming the APA for one night. Tonight's a different story, as JBL is a paid assassin for the insane chairman.

Ric Flair's retirement tour continues on ECW tomorrow night in San Diego.

Match 5: Beth Phoenix vs. Maria (w/Santino Marella)(non-title) Pre-match, Santino announces that, yes, Maria is posing for Playboy, and he even has a contract in hand. However, there is a catch. Maria has to win this match. I guess they didn't have enough confidence in Maria making the announcement herself and hot-shotted this angle. On paper, this would be another squash, and it certainly looks that way.

Beth has Maria set up for a running powerslam when Candice Michelle power walks down to the ring, making her first live appearance on Raw since the fall. That allows Maria to slide out and schoolgirl the women's champion. Winner: Maria.

Santino is in shock, as his scam's been foiled. I guess they're not ready to split him off from Maria just yet. Meanwhile, Triple H is ready for his duties as referee. The main event is next!

Match 6: Randy Orton vs. John Cena (non-title) This is billed as Cena's "last chance". Like, anyone's really buying into that. To his credit, Triple H lets the combatants fight it out as if they were on the playground fighting over lunch money. Slugfest from the go, and Orton gains the early advantage knocking Cena off the apron and into the broadcast table. Orton maintains that advantage through the break, and gets several near falls, with Hunter making a steady count throughout. Cena battles back, and hits the Killswitch and the 5-Knuckle shuffle. An RKO is countered into the STFU, but Orton makes the ropes. Helmsley scolds Cena and the two go nose-to-nose. However, Cena picks up the champion's charge toward a cheap shot, and promptly hits the FU. Winner: John Cena.

Instead of raising the victor's hand, HHH hits the Pedigree on Cena, then waits on Orton, staggering back to his feet like a punch drunk pug, before doing the same to the champion. The Cerebral Assassin is standing tall over the two men he now must face on March 30 in Orlando at Wrestlemania.
