We begin tonight with a recap of the Ed Kaufman press conference
from Smackdown, and sound bytes from various WWE employees
who "were there" when the limo exploded.
Jump cut to the arena, and Mick Foley is out, backpedaling
on his remarks from last week. He apologizes, because if
he knew what was going to happen, he'd have handled things
differently. Randy Orton comes out to rebut, and mentions
"The Hardcore Diaries", though not by name. King
Booker, surprisingly, says it wasn't Mick, but rather Bobby
Lashley, citing Lashley's military background and knowledge
of weapons and explosives. Lashley comes out, and promptly
shoves Booker down on his butt. John Cena is out next, and
calms everyone down with a phat promo that reminds that
there are about a bazillion suspects, citing an infinite
number of enemies that Mr. McMahon might've made over the
years, including disgruntled maids and truck drivers. Jonathan
Coachman comes out. Might as well say he's the de-facto
GM for the duration. Coachman makes two matches for later:
Cena & Lashley vs. Orton & Booker, and Foley vs.
Umaga.
Brian Kendrick & Paul London vs. World's Greatest
Tag Team. Good opener, but too short, and this
is with 4 of the best athletes on the roster! London was
face in peril, but then got the hot tag to Kendrick. Forearm
shivers and dropkicks everywhere. Shel Benjamin tried to
powerbomb London, but ended up going over the top. That
allowed Kendrick to hit Sliced Bread #2 uninhibited on Charlie
Haas to pick up the win. In commentary, Jerry Lawler tried
to insinuate that London was a major suspect in the case
because London was the only one smiling at the end of the
show last week. Coincidental, methinks. Winners: Brian Kendrick
& Paul London.
Coach is being interviewed by federal investigator Daniel
Beck. We also find that Raw will expand to 3 hours again
next week as the investigation will continue. No mention
so far of the real-life passing of Sherri Martel.
Carlito is out to cut a promo, and refers to Torrie Wilson
& Ric Flair as two of last week's big winners, because
they're now on Smackdown. Sandman comes through the crowd
and chases Carlito away to start their program. Cryme Tyme
pay some respects to Mr. McMahon, too, but it also sets
up another skit parodying home shopping networks. Hey, they're
the WWE's answer to the Homeboy Shopping Network from "In
Living Color". Beck throws cold water on the skit and
calls JTG & Shad into a meeting......
Jeff Hardy vs. Daivari. Lance Cade &
Trevor Murdoch are at ringside, but are not on color commentary.
Daivari is announced at 206, up six pounds from his last
appearance on Smackdown. Lawler references briefly Daivari's
1st tour of duty on Raw nearly 3 years ago. Another standout
match, and you had to wonder if the tag champs would get
involved. They didn't. Hardy actualy connected solidly with
the Whisper in the Wind, but only got 2. Twist of Fate &
Swanton bomb finish Daivari. Winner: Jeff Hardy. A post-match
promo by the tag champs, skewing the truth, is cut off as
Hardy hits a plancha on both Cade & Murdoch, then makes
good his escape. Hardys vs. Cade & Murdoch at Vengeance.
William Regal introduces himself to Maria, but her on-camera
suitor Santino Marella shows up. I guess we know who will
be the next challenger for the IC title. Regal's still got
the dry look going from Smackdown.
Todd Grisham interviews Thomas Pagliaro, "Mr. McMahon's
limo driver".
Mick Foley vs. Umaga. The match never officially
got underway. It was announced that Umaga will attempt to
regain the IC title from Marella on Sunday. Foley met Umaga
at the ropes and sent him to the floor with a knee. The
action was on the floor and barely got back into the ring.
It ended with Umaga wiping out Foley with a butt splash
on the steel steps, this after Umaga no-sold a chair shot
from Foley. Winner: None. Match never got started.
Beck is now interviewing Cena. Lawler thinks JR may also
be interviewed. Meanwhile, another white limo arrives. Back
from break, and Foley is being examined. Beck wants to talk
to Foley, obviously, but the doctor tells him Foley's in
no condition to take questions. Mr. Kennedy is in the ring
and cuts a promo, talking about respect, and the fans' lack
of it toward him. That keeps him a heel. He talks up how
Mr. McMahon was a father figure to him and there was mutual
respect. Bottom line, Kennedy is dedicating his career to
Mr. McMahon.
Back to the white limo, and the driver emerges, to stand
in front of the passenger's door.
Mickie James & Candice Michelle vs. Melina &
Jillian Hall. 1st time Melina & Jillian have
tagged in over 18 months, when they were both on Smackdown.
Jillian starts to butcher "Amazing Grace", in
dedication to Mr. McMahon, but is cut off by Mickie's entrance
music. The hometown gal gets the phattest pop of the night
for someone other than Lashley. Unfortunately, Mickie is
also the designated jobber, as the women's champ gets back
on the winning track, using a standing leg lariat to gain
the fall. She gets a rematch vs. Candice for the title at
Vengeance. Winners: Melina & Jillian Hall..
Randy Orton & King Booker (w/Queen Sharmell)
vs. Bobby Lashley & John Cena. Lawler claims
this is the first time Booker has fought Lashley. Wrong!
They had a feud over the World title several months ago,
when Booker was the World champ, and it ultimately led to
Lashley leaving for ECW to win their title. Very good main
event, best match on the show. The two teams went back and
forth, and Cena was face in peril. Orton had him in a side
headlock with a leg grapevine, but Cena kept trying to carry
Orton over to the corner to make a tag, but never got there.
Ultimately, he did get the hot tag to Lashley, who blasted
Booker with an exploder suplex. He went for the Dominator
2.0, but Booker slid out and Orton made a blind tag. After
a spinebuster to Booker, Lashley was left wide open for
the RKO. Orton hooked and grapevined both legs to secure
the pinfall. Winners: Randy Orton & King Booker...
The limo finally opens, and it's Stephanie who comes out,
making her first appearance on Raw since March 2006. Now,
where do we go from here? Back from break, and Coach is
offering to escort Steph to the ring, but she decides to
tough it out and go it alone. Trying in vain to fight off
the tears, she thanks the fans for the cards, calls, &
e-mails, and plugs next week's show and the PPV, promising
vengeance on whomever was responsible for what happened
to her father. A teary "I love you, Dad!", and
off she goes. End of show.
