Tonight's program begins with the rarest of things. A promo by the Undertaker. The Deadman, the defending champion in the Royal Rumble, has but a warning for the rest of the field. "If you stand before me", he declares, "you will fall before me!"

Matt Striker & Big Daddy V come out, and Striker cuts a promo on the Phenom, questioning whether or not the Deadman can eliminate the nearly 500 pound BDV. The modern-day mastodon can wait no longer, and charges the ring, but Undertaker meets him at the apron. The battle spills to the floor, but after being slammed into the ring steps, Big Daddy, at the urging of Striker, retreats.

A recap is shown from last week, leading up to the Rey Mysterio-Chavo Guerrero match. It appears that Chavo has made a 180 degree turn in his feelings toward his aunt Vicki's relationship with Edge, who helped him beat CM Punk on Tuesday, despite the wary eye contact between the World champion and Chavo. Tonight, Edge & Chavo will team vs. Punk & Mysterio in our main event.

Match 1: Great Khali (w/Ranjin Singh) vs. Finlay (w/Hornswoggle) This spins out of Raw, where Finlay came to the aid of 'Swoggle, after Khali disrupted a midget battle royal won by the former cruiserweight champion. It's about as 1-sided as you could get, as the Fighting Irishman had better luck throttling Singh any time he tried to get involved. However, Singh would prove to be the difference. Late in the match, Finlay went for his trusty shillelagh, but Singh got to it first, and threw it up the ramp. 'Swoggle produced a bigger shillelagh, and proceeded to batter Singh's legs. Singh was thrown into the ring, and Finlay dropped 'Swoggle on top, then deposited Singh on the floor. However, that left 'Swoggle in the clutches of Khali, and Finlay had a choice. Save his friend, or retrieve his shillelagh. Finlay chose 'Swoggle, and paid for it with a tree slam, then the vise grip. Winner: Great Khali.

The anguish etched on Hornswoggle's face speaks volumes.

Backstage, Vicki Guerrero, sans neck brace after nearly 2 months, shares a tender moment with Edge. After sending Teddy Long away to fetch coffee, they're ready to make out when Chavo Guerrero shows up. Chavo apologizes for his remarks from last week. Remember what I said about a 180 degree turn? In essence, Chavo joins the growing Edge Army, which may be a mistake.

Raw Rebound: Jeff Hardy's 30 foot Swanton bomb on Randy Orton.

Match 2: Deuce 'N' Domino (w/Cherry) vs. Shannon Moore & Jimmy Wang Yang The former tag champs are sparring in the ring as we come back from the Raw Rebound, getting no entrance. Like I said last week, it's sad to see this happen to Deuce 'N' Domino so soon. This is a rematch, and the last time these two teams met, it was on ECW. The result, however, remains the same. Moore vaults over the top to the apron, scaring Cherry. While Moore assures her he means no harm, he gets blindsided. The "West Side Story" rejects, it seems, don't understand the definition of chivalry. I digress. Yang takes the hot tag, and just flat goes off on Domino, keeping Deuce out of the picture in the process. Cherry provides a distraction, but Domino can't cash in, and Yang connects with a moonsault, though not hitting fully on the target, putting him & Moore right back in the title hunt! Winners: Shannon Moore & Jimmy Wang Yang.

Vince McMahon confronts Finlay about his match with Khali and the danger Hornswoggle was placed in. The two (Finlay & Khali) will meet again next week, this time in a Belfast Brawl.

Match 3: Batista vs. Mark Henry Under more ideal conditions, this would be a World title match. The feud between these two has had more starts & stops than a Castol motor oil commercial, and now that Batista doesn't have the championship, Henry is just another fork in the road. It's a pretty even match, though. Henry misses a corner charge, and Batista hits a spear, but Henry kicks out with authority at 2. Batista hits a 2nd spear, but decides it's time for the Batista Bomb. Not so fast, says the Olympic strongman, who backdrops out of harm's way. However, Henry misses a big splash, and Batista closes it with a spinebuster. Winner: Batista.

The CM Punk-Chavo Guerrero match from Tuesday is recapped. They'll headline ECW for a 4th week, this time with the ECW title on the line, and word is that Edge will be in Chavo's corner.

Now, it's time for the VIP Lounge. Montel Porter's guest is his opponent at the Royal Rumble, Ric Flair. To listen to the Most Vacuous Poser try to out-talk Flair is worth the price of admission alone. Porter keeps bleating that he's better than Flair and everyone else, but all that tells us is that like so many others, he's full of hot air. Flair sees a little bit of his younger self in Porter, but he also runs off a list of current and future Hall of Famers he's wrestled, name-checking Harley Race, Dusty Rhodes, Triple H, Rick Steamboat, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and the Rock. In Flair's mind, the arrogant Porter can't lace their boots, although MVP seems to think otherwise. Porter reminds that he beat Flair at Vengeance last June. Payback is just 9 days away, and while Porter is confident that he will end Flair's career, I just don't see it happening, and Flair sends a warning shot by chopping Porter, knocking him over one of the sofas. Swank stuff.

Match 4: Michelle McCool vs. Layla El Two former Diva Search contestants square off. Layla, of course, won 2 years ago, and Michelle was a runner-up in '04. Layla debuts a new blue spandex ensemble, but the wardrobe change doesn't change her luck. She works on Michelle's leg, trying to keep her taller opponent grounded, but isn't able to maintain the advantage. Michelle rears up and kicks Layla in the back of the head, the beginning of the end for the former NBA cheerleader. Michelle debuts a new finisher, a modified version of the Angel's Wings, except that she holds Layla straight up before dropping her down. Winner: Michelle McCool.

Backstage, Michelle is headed back to her locker room when she encounters Jamie Noble. Jamie thought she looked awesome beating Layla. A tech aide delivers some roses, which turn out to be from Chuck Palumbo. Chuck apologizes for his tantrums, not just last week, but I think we can add the week before, too. Chuck & Jamie start arguing, but Michelle breaks it up, and it looks like a new, albeit dysfunctional, tag team is forming.....

Michael Cole & Jon Coachman run down the Royal Rumble card.

Rey Mysterio is on his way to the ring when he meets Vicki Guerrero & Teddy Long. Vicki is still using the wheelchair, something she really doesn't need. She wishes Rey good luck, but Rey just shakes his head and moves on....

Match 5: Rey Mysterio & CM Punk vs. Edge & Chavo Guerrero To my knowledge, this may be the first time Edge & Chavo have tagged together. It is, though, the first time Punk & Mysterio have teamed in a 2-on-2 match. The momentum is on their side early on. Punk & Guerrero start, offering a preview of the title match coming up on Tuesday. Punk tags in Mysterio, and after a quick flurry of activity, Guerrero tags out to Edge. Mysterio sets up Edge for the 619, but Edge slides out to the floor. As ref Jim Corderas backs Mysterio toward center ring, Punk tags Edge on the apron with a rear kick to the head. Chavo is low-bridged out to the floor, and Punk & Mysterio hit a double suicide dive right before the break. Back from commercial, and Punk is the face in peril. Chavo & Edge work on the shoulder, and it takes a while before Punk can make a hot tag to Mysterio. Rey cleans house on Chavo, and takes Edge off the apron with a forearm shiver. He hits the 619 on Chavo, but before he can set up for the finish, Edge hits him with a chair to the legs right in front of Corderas. The World champ slides into the ring with a deranged look in his eyes. Punk comes back to try to help, but is beaten down, and the Edgeheads make a brief appearance to help, but are sent away by their leader. Edge hits the spear on Rey, but it doesn't connect completely. Edge & Chavo are standing tall to end the show, but don't count on that for too long. Winners: Rey Mysterio & CM Punk via DQ.
