We open with highlights of Smackdown's Elimination Chamber match at No Way Out. The show proper begins with Edge and his proteges, Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder. Edge does all the talking, standing defiant and unafraid of the Deadman. Both champion & challenger are undefeated at Wrestlemania, so something has to give. Edge claims he will be the one to end the Taker's Mania streak. That leads to a gong, and lights out. When they come on again, Edge is in the grip of Undertaker, who has to fight off Hawkins & Ryder in order to get at the champion. The neophytes are easily dealt with, but Edge escapes after seeing Ryder eat a chokeslam. Time is ticking away, and not once was Edge's "engagement" to Vicki Guerrero even mentioned.

Match 1: Shelton Benjamin vs. Jimmy Wang Yang (Money in the Bank qualifier) 3 days after he & Elijah Burke lost to Ric Flair & CM Punk on ECW, Shelton returns with an opportunity to get back in the Money in the Bank match at Wrestlemania. He's been there before, but never has there been a better time than now for the self-declared gold standard to move back into the main event scene. Trust me when I tell you, they're going to have a hard time following this one. This was one of those matches that deserved more time. Benjamin leaped to the top turnbuckle in one bound and hit a overhead throw that sent Yang to the floor. Michael Cole & Jon Coachman talked up Benjamin like he was a babyface instead of a heel for much of the match, playing up his athleticism. Yang & Benjamin traded near falls throughout. The end came when Yang went for the moonsault, but you could see Benjamin moving out of range as Yang went up. Yang landed on his feet, but Benjamin hit his finisher, a running bulldog/STO combination (Judas Mesias' Straight to Hell for TNA fans) to put this one to bed. Winner: Shelton Benjamin.

Teddy Long leaves the GM's office and runs into Maryse, making a rare appearance in person on Smackdown. She invites Teddy back into the office (apparently Vicki Guerrero isn't there at the moment) to discuss something she needs, like maybe more opportunities to appear on TV......

Match 2: Jesse & Festus vs. Deuce 'N' Domino (w/Cherry) Cole calls this a pivotal match for both teams, jockeying for position to get the next tag title shot vs. John Morrison & Mike Mizanin. Early on, Deuce uses Cherry as a shield. Jesse, being a Southern gentleman, moves Cherry to the side, only to eat a heel kick to the face, which breaks his nose. That makes three men who've had broken noses this week. Jesse is the face in peril, and manages to make a hot tag to Festus despite Domino's best efforts to block him. Festus just goes off and destroys the former tag champs, then brings Jesse back. Woozy, Jesse still scores with the rocket launcher to win the match. Winners: Jesse & Festus.

Raw rebound: Big Show vs. Floyd Mayweather, Jr..

Match 3: Big Daddy V (w/Matt Striker) vs. Shannon Moore Squashola!! Moore had to have flashbacks to the winter of 2003-04, when he was routinely being fed to the likes of A-Train and Big Show. He may have Show in his future again, now that the former ECW & WWE champion is back. BDV barely sold what offense Moore had, and Shannon's best move was a missile dropkick to the knee. Moore tried to follow up, but jumped right into a Ghetto Drop. One elbow drop later, it was over. Winner: Big Daddy V.

Cole & Coach wondered if they needed a seismograph or Richter scale to measure the impact of Big Daddy's elbow drop.

Match 4: Montel V. Porter vs. Batista (non-title) Return match from last week. Porter still refuses to defend the US title (waiting on Matt Hardy to return from the DL, which should be any day). If Teddy Long were the sole GM, he'd have stripped Porter by now or at the very least arranged title defenses for him in the interim. Shows how little respect WWE has for the US title these days. A picture-in-picture promo by MVP pre-match explains the rematch. He thinks last week was a fluke, and claims he's still better than Batista. A fool and his brains are soon parted, I say. Both are selling the effects of the Elimination Chamber, as Porter is favoring his back, Batista his neck. Porter is in control for much of the match, but one kick to the head too many wakes up the Animal. 3 spinebusters rattle Porter, and then the Batista Bomb finishes the job. Winner: Batista.

The steel cage non-match between Hornswoggle & Mr. McMahon is replayed in its entirety. 'Swoggle is "still in the hospital" with "cerebral hemorraging" (check the spelling).

Match 5: Kane vs. Great Khali Khali goes it alone tonight, as Ranjin Singh is out with a "shattered kneecap", the result of being booted from the Elimination Chamber by the Undertaker. Not having Singh in his corner this time proves costly to Khali. He has the match seemingly in hand, applying the vise grip, but Kane pushes off the top turnbuckle, and rolls back Khali's shoulders to the mat, hooking the legs as he goes. Khali has no idea that he's been pinned! Winner: Kane.

It's all Jim Corderas can do to get Khali to break the grip after the match, explaining that the match is over, and the Punjabi Giant lost.

Undertaker's Wrestlemania record is reviewed. Edge has a tall mountain to climb if he wants to prevent that record from going to 16-0.

Match 6: Chuck Palumbo vs. Matt Jackson Squashola #2. Unlike Shannon Moore earlier, Jackson had nothing to offer. Palumbo rammed him into the post back-first twice. Short-arm clothesline. Fallaway slam into a Samoan Drop. Full Throttle. Thanks for coming. Winner: Chuck Palumbo.

Michelle McCool is shown backstage watching, disappointed with Chuck's attitude change.

Rey Mysterio is out to address the constituency of his hometown of San Diego. Rey has to have surgery done to repair a torn bicep on his right arm. Earlier, Edge said he & the Edgeheads took credit for injuring Rey, but in truth, Edge had nothing to do with it. Hawkins & Ryder lost to Rey & Kane in that match in Santiago, Chile. Speaking in Spanish & English, Rey fills the peeps in. However, Vicki Guerrero, still using a wheelchair, and using Teddy Long as Mark Sanger to her Ironside, interrupts. She claims Rey intentionally knocked her out of the chair last week. She is so delusional, she won't listen to reason. The power-mad GM decides to have Rey wrestle one last time before he leaves for surgery......

Match 7: Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio (non-title) We have seen better from these two. We have seen them go at it a zillion times since Rey came to WWE 5 1/2 years ago. Now, Chavo is acting as an assassin for his aunt. Rey is on the defensive virtually from the start, as Batista was earlier. Rey hits a seated senton on the floor, and again in the ring, but doesn't have enough strength left in his injured arm to leverage into a cover. Chavo hits the 3 Amigos, but the 3rd Amigo is his brainbuster. Misses the frogsplash, and that allows Rey to hit a modified La Magistral to end it. Winner: Rey Mysterio.

However, it's not over. Vicki orders the music to stop and sends Big Show out to attack. Rey, drained from the match, offers little resistance. Show pulls off the brace on Rey's arm that covered the injured bicep, and steps on the bicep. The chokeslam is just a mere formality.

One year ago, as Rey was recovering from knee surgery, he was brought out in front of his peeps, only to be attacked by Umaga. That nightmare has started all over again.
