Hardcore Holly def. Balls Mahoney

| Detailed Results |
We open with the same Lashley vs. Umaga vidpack that aired
last night on Raw. After "Bodies", Chairman Wackjob
himself, Vince McMahon, makes his way out to waste everyone's
time. He claims to have encountered ECW champ Bobby Lashley
backstage and said Lashley was near tears and offered to apologize.
I'm not so sure about the tears part. Typical bluster from
a desperate man. Lashley comes out, and he apologizes, all
right. He's apologizing for not beating up the insane chairman
when he had the chance last Friday on Smackdown. They shake
hands, but as Lashley talks, his grip tightens, to McMahon's
stunned surprise. The champion leaves Vince with a warning.
If McMahon lays hands on Lashley again, he'll be broken in
half!.
Hardcore Holly vs. Balls Mahoney. Protracted
squash. Mahoney didn't get an entrance, which gives away the
result of this match already, if you've followed this pattern
on Raw and/or Smackdown in recent years. Mahoney went for
a senton splash off the top and got nothing but canvas. Holly
promptly hit a spinning Alabama Slam to end it. Winner: Hardcore
Holly. Cool spot was Tazz paraphrasing the holiday carol "Deck
The Halls" in reference to the combatants. Post-match,
Gene Snitsky showed up and KOd Holly with a boot to the head.
He'd already attacked Mahoney last week, and hasn't yet done
repeats. Still no promo to explain his actions, though. What
we know is that Snitsky is indiscriminate
Backstage, Rebecca DiPietro is with CM Punk. Punk talks about
his Money in the Bank match at Wrestlemania, and barely lets
slip that he'll face Ken Kennedy on Smackdown when Elijah
Burke interrupts and tries to sell Punk on the idea of joining
the New Breed. Rob Van Dam states his case against Burke.
Unfortunately, this would be all we'd see of Punk tonight.
Rob Van Dam vs. Elijah Burke.Burke cost RVD
his match vs. Kevin Thorn last week, but he also beat Van
Dam a few weeks back under more dubious circumstances, so
payback was definitely in order. Naturally, both teams were
out in full force, but this time, they didn't clear the arena
when there was a standoff on the floor before the commercial.
Burke blocked the Rolling Thunder, and tried a variation on
the abdominal stretch, which went nowhere. Back comes Van
Dam, who hits a split-legged moonsault for 2. After a superkick,
RVD hits the 5-Star Frogsplash and earns the win. Winner:
Rob Van Dam. Post-match, Tommy Dreamer, acting as spokesman
for the Originals, issued a challenge to the New Breed for
a match at Wrestlemania. We'll know by next week if the upstarts
will actually accept.
We're told Mick Foley, who had some of his greatest success
in ECW as Cactus Jack in the mid-90's before going to WWF/E
in 1996, will visit next week. But, it's now time for tonight's
guest star, and the glass shatters to herald the arrival of
Stone Cold Steve Austin. He may not live in Arizona (currently
lives in LA), but wherever there's a WWE ring and cameras,
that's his home du jour. He polls some fans at ringside, including
Chicago White Sox infielder Joe Crede, for their opinions
on Trump vs. McMahon. Contrary to the celebrity video pack
on Raw, the fans are all predicting McMahon will be shaved
bald. Austin will also be at Raw for the contract signing.
Mostly the usual ga-ga, complete with "What?" chants,
from the Rattlesnake. You'd think he'd have had the opportunity
to plug his new movie, "The Condemned", opening
next month, but that didn't happen. |
