We open with a voiceover hyping tonight's X division main
event, followed by a recap of the Steiner-Angle feud that
began in earnest last week. The show proper begins with AJ
Styles, who takes credit for putting the X division on the
map, especially the Ultimate X match. He's also claiming credit
for creating Elevation X, which is a 21st century style scaffold
match, making its debut at Destination X. Styles issues an
open challenge, perhaps expecting it to be answered by another
X division wrestler. Not so fast. Rhino still has unfinished
business with Styles, and accepts the challenge, climbing
up to the structure as Styles is escaping. Elevation X figures
to be the final chapter in this feud.
Jeremy Borash is backstage with Team 3D and their "cousin",
actor Steve Schirripa (The Sopranos, Spike TV's Casino Cinema),
who cut a promo on LAX prior to the Belting Pot lumberjack
match, which happens to be tonight's 1st match.....
Team 3D (w/Steve Schirripa) vs. LAX (w/Konnan) Team
3D came out on the attack early, and had the champions backpedaling.
However, LAX got heat on Devon, and dumped him to the outside
where the Latino Nation was waiting. However, Devon made the
hot tag to Brother Ray, who cleaned house. The Latino Nation
and the "Family" began brawling on the floor. Ray
called Schirripa in to help with the "Wasssup" headbutt
on Homicide. Hotstuff Hernandez went after Schirripa, but
ran right into the 3D. Winners: Team 3D.
Sting is, well, somewhere, lying on a "death bed",
the object of the "Last Rites" match he'll have
vs. Abyss at Destination X. James Mitchell has been eliminated
from the picture, and that leaves Abyss all alone and out
of control. Jeremy Borash is the man-monster's 1st victim,
as he attempts to interview the former champion. Abyss chokes
out Borash, holding him against a chain-link fence, then drops
him.
Robert Roode & Eric Young (w/Ms. Brooks) &
James Storm (w/Jackie Moore) vs. Lance Hoyt and Voodoo Kin
Mafia. Short match that didn't do anything special.
Young, a reluctant heel, joins BG James for a little hip hop
action and clotheslines Storm, which brings Roode into the
ring to berate his, well, "servant", if you will.
Roode slaps Young and orders him out. No tag, but ref Earl
Hebner allowed it. The finish saw Hoyt go up top, but Roode
crotched him on the top turnbuckle. Down went Hoyt, and Storm
raced over to make the cover before Hoyt could regain his
bearings. Winners: Robert Roode, Eric Young, & Lance Hoyt.
Post-match, Roode's still berating Young, but Chris Harris
comes out of the crowd and chases Storm out of the arena.
Don West is in the ring with former NFL star Andre Rison,
currently appearing on Spike's Pros vs. Joes, which follows
Impact on Thursdays. Andre puts over the show, but the interview
is cut short by Abyss. The man-monster declines to be interviewed,
but Rison offers a handshake. Abyss turns that into a Black
Hole Slam.
Christopher Daniels promo. Ring of Honor fans have already
seen his new look. I personally can't wait to see it. Samoa
Joe cuts a promo targeting Christian Cage. Joe's now feeling
he's been overlooked for almost two years, passed over time
and again for title shots, but now he's finally got the chance
at Destination X.
Mike Tenay & Jim Cornette are in the ring for a formal
contract signing for Kurt Angle vs. Scott Steiner at Destination
X. Each man cuts a promo on the other, with Angle calling
Steiner out for being selfish and money hungry. After the
contract is signed, the table goes flying and we have a fight.
Tomko and Cage join Steiner, and Angle is laid out after a
belt shot. Cornette claimed that Cage AND Joe were "in
training", but of course the champ was lying. So now
Cage thinks it's cool to lie.
Paparazzi Idol, part 2: Jay Lethal shows off some talent as
an impressionist, doing a killer Randy Savage impersonation,
right down to the hand gestures. Pretty impressive, the best
thing they've done so far.
Jerry Lynn vs. "The" Austin Starr vs. Senshi
vs. Jay Lethal vs. Sonjay Dutt [#1 contender's match for the
X division title, ladder match] Good main event,
but short on time. They went to commercial barely a minute
into the match, and that killed the momentum. The match ended
too quickly, too. It came down to Senshi, Starr, & Lynn.
Bob Backlund was at ringside, and we're told that he'd told
Chris Sabin last week he'd find someone to lead to the X title.
Lynn pushed Senshi & Starr off the ladders, and claimed
the X hanging over the ring to earn the title rematch vs.
Sabin.
Winner: Jerry Lynn. It appears that Backlund will be in Lynn's
corner, as they shook hands post-match. Backlund also offered
his hand to Starr, who wiped his sweat in the direction of
the 2 time former champion. Backlund went on the attack and
applied the cross-face chicken wing to Starr to end the show.
During the "Adrenaline Rush" recap, we see them
applying sutures to Angle, as they're selling the beatdown
big time. |
