| Detailed Results |
We open with a recap from last week, and the introduction
of Abyss' mother. Paparazzi Productions takes us to a diner
somewhere in Orlando where Sting--in civvies--and James Mitchell
are meeting over dinner. Seems Mrs. Marks killed her husband,
but son Chris (Abyss) was so close to his mom, he'd do anything
to protect her, so he took the rap and did the time. Translated---Mitchell
now has another reason to keep Abyss under his control, using
blackmail once again. And the saga continues because the three-headed
creative monster (Mantell/Jarrett/Russo) can't bring themselves
to create a happy ending.
Shark Boy vs. Alex Shelley vs. The Austin Starr vs.
Jerry Lynn vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Petey Williams (6-man X-Division
Xscape cage match). As the match begins, we see Mr.
Bob Backlund performing the Harvard Step test near the broadcast
table. After 4 of the 6 men are eliminated, the winner has
to escape the cage. The order of elimination:
1. Shelley (by Shark Boy via Deep Sea Drop)
2. Dutt (by Lynn via cradle piledriver)
3. Shark Boy (by Starr via brainbuster)
4. Starr (by Williams via Canadian Destroyer)
Now, it's down to Williams and Lynn. They're battling on the
outside of the cage, exchanging punches, until Lynn falls
to the floor to win the match.
Winner: Jerry Lynn. Post-match, Christopher Daniels strikes
again, hitting Lynn with a baseball bat. They really need
to end the Abyss/Mitchell/Sting arc and start on Daniels vs.
Sting.
Tomko is arriving at the arena, fresh from a tour of Japan,
where he won a tag title with Giant Bernard (formerly A-Train
from WWE). Letitia tries to talk to him, but Christian Cage
shows up and monopolizes Tomko's time. Cage's cell phone rings,
and as the champion turns his back to take the call, Tomko
walks into the arena.
Cage leads AJ Styles & Scott Steiner into the Impact Zone.
Steiner is officially the 3rd member of Team Cage, and #4
is Abyss. Cage claims the lineup is complete, but Styles reminds
that they need a 5th man, and Cage nominates Tomko, who appears
reluctant when he comes out. Tomko's not digging Cage's antics,
and it seems he wasn't the only one promised a title shot,
as Steiner is demanding a title match. Kurt Angle, Rhino,
& Samoa Joe come out on the other side. Angle calls Cage
a liar and promises Tomko a title shot if he signs on with
the Olympian. Enter Jim Cornette, who sets up a main event
match where each team will choose a member, and the winning
team will get Tomko. Hope Angle read up on Hemingway.........!
We'd later learn that Angle will face Abyss.
Eric Young vs. James Storm (w/Jackie Moore).
Poor Eric. He should be getting pushed in the X division,
but instead is being used the same way Nikolai Volkoff was
in the WWF 12 years ago when "owned' by Ted DiBiase.
Robert Roode is no DiBiase. Young shows a lot more fire and
offense than I've seen in the past, but Moore's interference
is the difference, as she pushes Young off the top and into
a waiting superkick from Storm. If Storm is not getting a
title shot any time soon, why is he going over? Post-match
saw Chris Harris & Gail Kim come down leading to security
holding them back. Moore & Storm fled, and Roode came
down with Ms. Brooks to berate Young again. Williams came
back out to save Young. Winner: James Storm.
Abyss vs. Kurt Angle. Tomko came down to
ringside with two contracts in hand. Before a break, Cage
came down to cheer on Abyss. Not quite as good as the first
TV meeting between these two a few months ago. Angle had the
anklelock applied, but Abyss kicked out and knocked Angle
into ref Earl Hebner, knocking Hebner out of the match. A
2nd ref came down after Abyss hit the Black Hole Slam and
we had a near fall. Abyss set up for the chokeslam, but Angle
countered and rolled up Abyss for the pin.Winner: Kurt Angle.
Post-match, Tomko entered the ring to congratulate Angle,
then blindsided him with the clipboard. Tomko was going to
be with Team Cage after all. In due course, Rhino, Styles,
Joe, & Steiner came out, and Team Cage stood tall to end
the show. |
