| Detailed Results |
The King of the Mountain qualifying tournament is recapped
to start the program. Jim Cornette is in the ring, and announces
that essentially Jeff Jarrett has withdrawn his name from
consideration for personal reasons (his wife's death, which
wasn't mentioned, other than Don West using the word "tragic"
to describe Jarrett's sitch). Christian Cage, AJ Styles, &
Tomko make their way out, and Cage demands that Styles be
declared the winner by forfeit. No can do, sayeth Cornette,
who instead taps Tomko as Jarrett's replacement. The Cheshire
Cat grin on Tomko's face speaks volumes, and I'm reminded
of Batista in the winter of 2005. Come to think of it, Cage's
attempt at bullying Cornette came off like he was rehearsing
from the Triple H Promo Starter Set, circa 2000.
Letitia is in Cornette's office before TNA's de-facto commissioner
can get back, only to find Eric Young in Cornette's chair.
Robert Roode & Traci Brooks follow Cornette in, and what
we get is Young vs. Roode at Slammiversary. If Roode wins,
Young is done, but Eric can earn his freedom if he beats Roode.
I hope this is the blowoff to this stupid angle. Bob Backlund
enters ranting about Alex Shelley and the stolen book. Seems
Backlund needs certain clearance if he wants to face Shelley
at Slammiversary......
The first match is supposed to be Daniels vs. Rhino, but Sting
intercepts Daniels just as he reaches the foot of the ramp,
and they brawl all the way to the back, where Sting lays him
out with a baseball bat. Meanwhile, Rhino cuts a promo and
issues an open challenge, answered by LAX. Spying Hector Guerrero
in the crowd, Konnan calls him a sell-out. That prompts Guerrero
to hop the rail, and they tease a tag match as we go to break.
Rhino (w/Hector Guerrero) vs. Homicide (w/Konnan &
Hotstuff Hernandez). This match deserved more time
than it got, and you can blame it on the promo Cage cut, IMPO.
Homicide did a modified suicide dive at one point, and Hernandez
got involved briefly, but it only postponed the inevitable.
Rhino hit the gore, and that was the end of that. Winner:
Rhino.Post-match, Hernandez hit the ring with Konnan's crutches
and the beatdown was on, as Guerrero was also taken out. Chris
Harris ran in for a save, but was also left lying. I see a
6-man at Slammiversary, with Machete rounding out the LAX
team.
Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe have a confrontation backstage
when Angle interrupts Joe's interview. Angle claims he'll
cripple Joe before Slammiversary. Angle's cuckoo for Cocoa
Puffs, we all know that, but I can't see him succeeding with
this mad quest.
Chris Sabin vs. Kaz (non-title). Best match
on the card. There was a "Let's go, Sabin!" chant
early on. Fans just don't care about Serotonin, since they
never win. Kaz came close to ending the losing streak, and
hit a corkscrew DDT for a near fall, only to have Sabin find
the bottom rope. Kaz set up Sabin on the top, but caught sight
of Raven, Martyr, & Havoc up in the rafters. Sabin got
out of trouble and hit a hesitation dropkick in the corner,
followed by the Cradle Shock. Winner: Chris Sabin.
Sonjay Dutt is telling Kevin Nash & Jay Lethal that he's
come up with his own gimmick makeover. The "Original
Playa from the Himalaya" is no more, and the "new"
Dutt debuts next week..
AJ Styles vs. Tomko (King of the Mountain qualifier).
Barely a minute into the match, Cage came down with a chair,
and played both sides against each other (DUH!). Seems to
me like they are doing the slow build to a face turn for Tomko,
same as they did with Abyss. Turning point came when Cage
was on the apron with the chair. Tomko blocked him, and the
ref tried to separate them. Styles then hit a modified Jack
Brisco rollup and stacked up Tomko's shoulders to get the
pinfall. Near the finish, Joe & Angle came out and had
a meeting of the minds on the ramp. Tomko chased Cage up the
heel ramp to end the show. |
