We open with a recap of last week's main event. In the Impact Zone, Kurt & Karen Angle are the first ones out. Kurt is shouted down with chants of "Angle sucks!" before he can even get started, but he finally does cut a promo for the tag team match at Genesis in which his newly regained TNA World title is at stake. He knows Kevin Nash can't stand him, and calls Big Sexy washed up. He calls Sting the "President of the PTA" (which Steve Borden probably is in his home district in California). Sting comes out, and drops a hint as to his mystery partner at Genesis. He's won titles in "many organizations", including WWE & WCW. Coincidentally, that clue also applies to Nash, who comes out and gets called out by the champion. Nash gets in the ring, and Angle bails, backpedaling right into an advancing Sting. Sting & Nash take turns popping Angle, who finally manages to escape as security separate Nash & Sting.Mike Tenay & Don West tell us Junior Fatu, who advanced in the #1 contender's tournament last week, is now out as he failed to appear, and Christian Cage will have a new, unknown opponent.
Match 1: James Storm (w/Jackie Moore) vs. Kaz Speaking of that tournament, the first semi-final is our opening match. Too bad it just didn't get enough time. Storm's best move was a double underhook DDT off the middle rope, which earned a near fall. Storm also dusted off a helicopter bomb, dubbed the Eye of the Storm. That also netted a near fall. The finish came out of nowhere, as Kaz looked like he was going for a backcracker, but actually it was a reverse rollup and back bridge. Kaz moves to the finals. Winner: Kaz. Post-match, Eric Young comes down with a 6-pack of beer. He & Storm share the suds. Earlier, Kurt Angle claimed he was some sort of genius and made references to "CSI", "24", and "Law & Order". Now, he & Karen, along with Jeremy Borash, are in a darkened room. Kurt plans to interrogate as many people as possible in his quest to learn the identity of Sting's partner at Genesis. Karen leaves, disgusted with her husband's latest obsession. In the ring, Team 3D cut another scathing promo against the X division, reiterating previous remarks. Well, the Motor City Machine Gunns, Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin, are out to rebut. Shelley makes with a series of fat jokes. Ray calls for tables, but there are none to be had. Instead, Triple X and Havok appear behind the Gunns, carrying the tables. Petey Williams, Shark Boy, and Sonjay Dutt attack from the rear, and the others soon join in. However, no one's tasting wood as Team 3D escapes, with Shelley issuing a challenge for Team 3D vs. the entire X division at Genesis!
Kevin Nash had been interviewed by Crystal, and claims he & Kurt aren't still in cahoots. Man, the Olympic Schizoid is up against it this time. Now, Crystal is with Christy Hemme, Jimmy Rave, & Lance Hoyt. Christy's more worried about her love life than with her opponent tonight, Awesome Kong. Time to get your priorities straightened out, honey!
Kurt interviews Jay Lethal and gets a bunch of nonsense. Lethal starts to leave, but loses his glasses. So Cal Val appears, and she locks eyes on Lethal. Hmmm.
Match 2: Awesome Kong vs. Christy Hemme (w/Lance Hoyt & Jimmy Rave) Squashola!!! Same story, different night, different victim. Kong straddled Christy across her shoulders, and somehow got Christy to kick herself in the head. Christy's fishnet tights were ripped as a result. One powerbomb later, and it's over. Winner: Awesome Kong. Hoyt carried his unconscious lover to the back after the match. Meanwhile, Crystal is hoping to interview Sting, and finds Eric Young trying to listen. After the break, more of the same, but no answers. In another part of the arena, Abyss has found Dustin Rhodes, whose alter ego Black Reign has made life miserable for the man-monster in recent weeks. Rhodes is promptly destroyed. Kurt Angle interrogates Chris Harris, or so the plan went. Instead, Harris has a list of complaints about Angle dominating Impact broadcasts of late, and they're all the same.
Now, Kurt has the Voodoo Kin Mafia in the interrogation room. It's just plain silly. Meanwhile, Crystal interviews Christian Cage, who complains about not getting a bye into the tournament finals. Cage leaves, and Crystal finds Kevin Nash talking to someone on his cell phone. Hmmmm.
Match 3: Robert Roode & Ms. Brooks vs. Samoa Joe & Gail Kim After Roode & Joe had cost each other matches the last two weeks, they finally square off, but in a mixed tag. I guess they're going to save the singles match for Genesis. The same fan is at ringside cheering for Roode, and has a staredown with Brooks. Otherwise, Brooks would rather be tagging with someone other than Roode. The best stuff was when the girls were in, as Brooks got some near falls on the women's champion. Gail picks up the fall with a rollup. Winners: Samoa Joe & Gail Kim. Post-match, Roode berated Brooks for the umpteenth time, and Gail has heard enough. She rips Roode a new one, then slaps him. Joe makes the save and chases Roode to the back through the crowd. We have two of the "knockouts" in the interrogation room now. Seems Eric Young overheard Sting talking to his prospective partner, and they're willing to spill.....to Jeremy Borash. However, JB gets a knee to the gut for his trouble.
Match 4: Christian Cage vs. Chris Harris In the early days of UFC--and I don't know if they still do this--if a fighter is forced out of the tournament, they have someone on stand-by who can step in to fill the hole. That applies here, as Harris replaces Junior Fatu (no longer with TNA due to a money dispute). Harris had a couple of matches with Cage not too long ago, so there's some unfinished business to be had. Tenay brings up the grievances Harris raised earlier with Kurt Angle. Harris stays right with the former champion, and even uses Cage's finisher, the Unprettier, against him for a near fall. Harris attempts the Catatonic, but Cage counters and tries again for the Unprettier, but Harris reverses into a rollup, only to have Cage counter and grab the ropes and a piece of Harris' tights for the fall. Cage is the only one to cheat his way through the tournament. Winner: Christian Cage. Post-match, Harris pleads his case with ref Rudy Charles, but Cage hits him with a ladder. He climbs up the ladder and hits the frogsplash. I'm sorry, but that amplifies Cage's guilt, especially after they showed the replay 3 times. Crystal tries to get comments from Kevin Nash, who dodges around her question.
Back to the interrogation room. Kurt is getting frustrated, such that he has Eric Young bound to a chair, beating him with a phone book until Jeremy stops him. Kurt then threatens Borash. Mike & Don run down the Genesis card.
Match 5: AJ Styles & Tomko vs. Homicide & Hernandez (LAX)(TNA Tag titles) Tomko's dual tag titles are referenced. Styles has a history with LAX, as they beat him & Christopher Daniels last year for the NWA tag titles on 2 different occasions. Of course, it's scary when Tomko comes off as the smarter half of the champions, with Styles playing the goof, doing his best Brian Christopher impersonation (but without the ersatz rap-speak). The former champs have an early advantage, and if you wondered about them being faces, the proof is in the pudding when, after a tope con hilo to the floor on the champs, Homicide rubs one of the belts, and gets a horizontal high-five from Don West. However, as we come back from break, Homicide is in with Styles. Problem is, ref Andrew Thomas is trying to separate Hernandez and Tomko, and it turns out Tomko was legal, not Styles. Styles got too cute, and paid for it with a Gringo (Diamond) Cutter, allowing Homicide to make a hot tag to Hernandez. In due course, all four are in the ring and Thomas loses control again. The bottom line is, Tomko lays out Hernandez with a clothesline, and Styles clinches it with a springboard 450 splash. Winners: AJ Styles & Tomko. Post-match, the champs continue the attack for no other reason than to send a message. They try to leave, even with a masked Latino Nation member handing Homicide a slapjack, but the Steiners intercept the champs at the ramp, and another fight breaks out. However, in the grandest tradition of WCW, we leave the action for another scene in the interrogation room. Kurt is quizzing Karen about her whereabouts when Kevin Nash walks in. He believes, and sells the idea to the Angles, that his old partner Scott Hall will team with Sting, and that Hall will return to Impact next week after a lengthy absence. "Can it get any worse?", Kurt whines.
