After the weekly recap, Scott Hall is shown entering the Impact Zone for the first time in a couple of years. What does this have to do with Genesis? Find out tonight!
Match 1: Christian Cage vs. Kaz Finals of the Fight for Your Right #1 contender's tournament kicks off this week's Impact. Any other night, this would be a main event match, and Kaz would get a major rub in that spot. However, he & ex-champion Cage are thrust into the curtain jerker position thanks to the Outsiders and the Angles. Anyway, it's a hot opener, and I doubt very seriously anyone's going to be able to follow this contest. Kaz presses the attack on Cage, getting a series of near falls early on. At one late point, Cage goes up for the frogsplash, but Kaz meets him up top, thinking perhaps a superplex or even a top rope Wave of the Future, but Cage forces him down by biting, then hits the frogsplash for 2. Kaz comes back with the Wave, and Cage escapes at 2 7/8. Near the end, AJ Styles & Tomko come down. Kaz handles them pretty well, but Cage sets up the ladder between the ropes. Tomko hits Kaz in the back of the head with a forearm shiver, and Cage bangs the ladder off Kaz and gets an apparent 3. However, Matt Morgan, acting "commissioner", if you will, in the absence of Jim Cornette, comes out and voids the result due to interference, ordering a ladder match for Genesis to finally decide the winner of the tournament. Winner: None. Match declared a No Contest.
Now, it's time for some screwball comedy. First, The Angles and Kevin Nash are in with Jeremy Borash. Too much moping about Scott Hall's intentions. Karen decides she's going to settle things herself with Hall. Riiiiiight.Crystal is with the Christian Coalition. Cage questions Morgan's qualifications. Tomko wants to know who the captain is of his team. Cage rips into him for thinking. Reminds me of the last days of Evolution, but Cage is no Triple H. Styles is the captain of the tag champs, and he cuts a promo challenging Scott Steiner to a amateur style match for later, citing the fact he was awarded a scholarship at Gainesville Vocational. Riiiiiight.
Match 2: Gail Kim vs. Alexa Jane (non-title) Jane's a newcomer, and hardly a pushover, as she gives the champion a run for her money. Pretty even matchup, as Jane gets a couple of near-falls, including a low double knee drive into Gail's face. However, the champion rallies, and ends it with the Emerald Frosien (Celtic Cross). Winner: Gail Kim. Post-match, the James boys of Voodoo Kin Mafia come to the ramp and hold Gail's attention as Roxxi Laveau comes out the other side and hits Gail with the Voodoo Slam. However, the other challengers in Sunday's fatal 4-way title match, Angel Williams and ODB, make their presence felt as well, but the champion ends up standing tall after all. Karen Angle meets Scott Hall. For the first time on television in 15 years, Scott speaks in his normal voice, not with the faux Cubano accent he first cultivated as Razor Ramon. Whatever Karen's selling, he's not buying, and cuts a promo about trust in the business. Good stuff.
Match 3: Jay Lethal & Abyss vs. Team 3D About what you'd expect from these guys. As the match begins, Matt Morgan returns with a note handed to Mike Tenay. Turns out Lethal will defend the X title vs. Sonjay Dutt. Lethal exchanges knowing glances with So Cal Val, acting as ring attendant. Hmmmm. Lethal gets a double clothesline and a double dropkick on Team 3D, then tags in Abyss, who just flat dominates. However, near the end of the match, Black Reign & Jim Mitchell come down, and Reign & Abyss brawl to the back. Lethal gets low-blowed, then 3D'd. Ballgame. Winners: Team 3D. Post-match, Lethal is placed on a table, and whipped before the Motor City Machine Guns, Team 3D's opponents on Sunday, make the save. More silliness with the Angles. Kurt decides it's his turn to confront Scott Hall. He first goes to the ring, then finds Hall's dressing room, only to find Eric Young there, as well. The meeting doesn't go well, as Angle & Hall at least agree to disagree and agree on one matter. Whatever Hall's issue is with Kevin Nash, it's strictly Outsider business, and Angle is to stay out of it. Hall hammerlocks Angle against the wall. Good stuff.
Crystal is with the Steiners, and Scott cuts a promo on AJ Styles, answering the takedown challenge, coming up next.
Match 4: Scott Steiner vs. AJ Styles (takedown challenge) Styles sports a red Gainesville Vocational singlet as opposed to his regular attire. It's a standoff at first, as Styles can't get Steiner, the former All-American from Michigan down. However, he pulls a pouch of powder from his singlet and blinds Steiner, enabling Styles to score three quick takedowns. The most takedowns in 5:00 wins the match. Steiner erases the deficit in a hurry, and takes the lead at 4-3 when Tomko comes down and attacks, prompting the end of the match. A double team beatdown ensues until Rick Steiner comes down to save his brother and chase the tag champs out. Winner: Scott Steiner via DQ. Backstage, Kurt Angle tells Kevin Nash that Scott Hall is "loco". Nash decides to see his buddy himself.....
Match 5: Robert Roode (w/Ms. Brooks), James Storm (w/Jackie Moore), & Kurt Angle vs. Eric Young, Samoa Joe, & Sting Curiously, Karen Angle does not accompany Kurt to the ring. Well, there's enough girl power at ringside anyway. Roode & Sting start, but as soon as the former champion gets an advantage, he tags in Joe, and Roode bails like the proverbial scalded dog. Storm is in with Joe. Tries to attack from behind off the top, and gets nothing but canvas. Now, Angle & Young are in. Squashola, right? Wrong. Eric drops the champion with a punch in the corner. To the floor they go, and Eric finds a phone book under the ring. He dials up a receipt from last week's interrogation and gets a near fall. Angle, however, has the advantage as we go to break. Meanwhile, Kevin Nash & Jeremy Borash are outside the Impact Zone waiting on Scott Hall. Back from break, and Roode is back in with his former "employee", and Karen has joined Jackie & Ms. Brooks at ringside. Now, it's Kurt and Eric again, and the champion has gained the advantage again. Roode's 1st contact with Joe, unsurprisingly, is with Joe's back turned, and Roode tripping Joe coming off the ropes. However, Joe makes the hot tag to Sting, who cleans house. Back-to-back Stinger Splashes on Roode & Storm. Scorpion Death Drop to Storm, but Roode saves. Joe clears out Roode. Angle hits the Olympic Slam behind the back of ref Earl Hebner, but Young sends Angle to the floor. Sting blocks the last call superkick, and locks on the Scorpion Deathlock. Storm struggles, but finally taps out. Winners: Eric Young, Samoa Joe, & Sting.
Kevin Nash is on his way back to the Impact Zone. It's now or never time for the Outsiders. Kevin comes down to the ring and calls Hall out. Scott complies and flashes the Clique sign to some adoring fans. He's greeted in the ring with a "Welcome back!" chant. There's also chants of "Razor! Razor!", in reference to his old WWF persona in the early 90's. At issue, really is the fact that Nash wasn't there for Hall when he was really down in the gutter. Nash had to pull himself out to save his marriage, among other things. Bottom line? Hall isn't Sting's partner, "never has, never will", although he & Sting did hold the WCW tag titles at one point during all the NWO silliness. Hall & Nash embrace. Angle comes back out and wants to know what's up. Sting appears at the edge of the ramp and just stands there, leaving Angle even more puzzled headed into Genesis!
