Tonight's show begins with a recap of the Rated RKO storyline from last week. The vidpack would be shown again later in the show. No opening music for the 2nd straight week, as we start the show proper with the Showstopper, Shawn Michaels. He's found some passion that had been, well, repressed for a long time, and now he's ready to win his 3rd Royal Rumble and go on to Wrestlemania. Not so fast, says Edge, who wants that honor himself. A spectacular brawl follows, carrying over after the commercial break. It takes all the refs and agents to try to break it up until it reaches the backstage area, where Jonathan Coachman finally puts a halt to the proceedings. Perhaps the smartest thing he did all night.

Jeff Hardy vs. Joey Mercury. MNM came out in full force, but that didn't last. Once Johnny Nitro exposed the concrete under the padding, ref Jack Doan threw Nitro & Melina out of the arena. That's what happens when you tip your hand too soon, kids. Hardy hit the Whisper in the Wind, then the Twist of Fate, to finish off Mercury, who sold the Twist big time, with his nose still injured. Winner: Jeff Hardy. Melina & Nitro came back to attend to Mercury, and we're told MNM and the Hardys will meet one final time at the Royal Rumble.

Vince McMahon & Coachman make their way down, and Vince reads a letter he intended for Donald Trump. He's making a mockery of Trump's penchant for self-promotion, and suggested that he (Vince) appear on "The Apprentice". Enter John Cena, who reminds that Vince and obsessions (i.e. DX) don't mix well. Cena even referenced the XFL. He ragged on Vince the way Stone Cold Steve Austin used to. Coach came to the chairman's defense, but wound up getting a match with the champ for later.

Super Crazy vs. Chris Masters. We've seen better bouts between these two, and with most of the card tonight, this was kept short. Masters applied the Masterlock, but Crazy found a way to counter that, by boosting himself off the turnbuckles and falling back, knocking Masters into a pinfall despite being in the full nelson.Winner: Super Crazy.

The next match is supposed to be Coach vs. Cena, but Coach stalls and decides on a mini-battle royal, with the object being to eliminate Cena. He sends out Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch, Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, Viscera, and Great Khali. Khali, however, doesn't quite understand his instructions, and eliminates everyone but Murdoch, whom Cena had already dumped over the top with the FU.

John Cena vs. Jonathan Coachman. Not much to it. Cena got up and went after Coach, but Umaga ran in and attacked Cena, who was promptly destroyed after a swinging sideslam, followed by the Samoan Spike. Estrada & Coachman then pulled out a table, and Umaga splashed Cena through the table. Estrada counted to 10 as if Umaga were winning the WWE title. Winner: John Cena via DQ.

Candice Michelle & Mickie James vs. Melina & Victoria.Short, but not quite so sloppy. This was Candice's 1st match back after the nose injury at the hands--or more specifically, the foot--of Victoria back in November. Candice got her revenge, pinning Victoria after a reverse elbow off the middle rope.Winners: Candice Michelle & Mickie James.

Kenny Dykstra vs. Carlito (w/Torrie Wilson & Chloe). Not much to this, either, and these two guys deserved more time. After an exchange of sunset flips, Dykstra got the fall using the tights. Winner: Kenny Dykstra.

Shawn Michaels vs. Edge.Earlier, Randy Orton met Edge backstage, much to the surprise of the Rated R Superstar, considering the abuse Orton took last week. Orton's presence, despite his being non-committal in the locker room, telegraphed how this bout would play out. Edge suplexed a ladder from the apron into the ring and onto Michaels. He countered the superkick with an electric chair into a neckbreaker. Talk about innovative. Michaels went for the conchairto on Edge, but that's when Orton showed up with an RKO. Edge crawled into the cover and got the pin.Winner: Edge. Post-match, Orton helped Edge up, then threw him out, since the tag champs will be in the Royal Rumble match along with Michaels. Orton set up for the conchairto himself, but then Ric Flair showed up and gave Orton two low blows. Dykstra came back and went after Flair. Carlito, looking for a receipt, attacked Dykstra. HBK came back and superkicked Dykstra, Carlito, & Orton, standing tall as the show ended.
