We open with Chairman Wackjob himself, Vince McMahon, who
brings out his "former" friend, Donald Trump. Yes,
"The Donald" is in the house, in person, accompanied
by Torrie Wilson & Smackdown's Ashley Massaro. Vince send
the girls out of the ring, since he didn't expect Trump to
have an escort. Already, Vince is being his usual self. Trump
wanted to rain more money down on the fans, but Chairman Wackjob
would have none of that. Trump challenges Vince to a match.
Vince begs off, claiming to have retired from competition
because of injuries supposedly incurred in Hell in a Cell
at Unforgiven back in September. He proposes they have proxies.
Trump goes him one better and proposes a hair match involving
said proxies. The loser will have his head shaved right there
in Detroit at Wrestlemania.
Melina & Johnny Nitro vs. Super Crazy & Mickie
James. After the women's champ and the "Insane
Luchador" swept singles matches from Team Poser last
week, they finally get around to putting these four in a mixed
tag. Too short, and too sloppy. Nitro got a near fall by grabbing
Crazy's tights. Melina hit a backbreaker on the knee, but
got Mickie on her upper back, not the lower back which was
the real target, and grabbed the tights for leverage. The
finish is just so tired, but head writer Brian Gewirtz and
his cast of idiots can't get away from using it. Winners:
Melina & Johnny Nitro.
Eugene vs. the Great Khali. If Eugene was
facing Umaga, it'd have been the same thing. Total squash.
Chop to the head, then the tree slam. How do you say "squash"
in Bengali? Winner: Great Khali.
Maria is with Shawn Michaels, who is on his cell phone, supposedly
talking to Triple H, and plugs the new DX DVD. The cover looks
like a detergent box, emphasizing the "New, Improved"
part of the title. HBK calls himself "Mr. Wrestlemania",
and as he recounts his past appearances at Mania, he omits
his appearance 3 years ago, when Chris Benoit won the world
title. Meanwhile, Todd Grisham is with Ric Flair, and they
replay Flair's promo to Carlito from last week. Carlito shows
up, and the debate is on. Carlito challenges Flair for later.
Jeff Hardy vs. Chris Masters. This felt rushed,
as these two deserved more time to establish Masters as a
potential challenger to the Intercontinental title. Masters
hit the Masterlock, but Hardy, after a couple of minutes,
managed to get himself over the top rope and to the apron,
forcing a break. Masters remonstrated with the referee, and
it cost him dearly. He tried suplexing Hardy back in so he
could reapply the full nelson, but Hardy twisted and rolled
up Masters for the 3.Winner: Jeff Hardy.
Jerry Lawler is in the ring, and introduces Portland resident
Roddy Piper, hale & hearty after a recent bout with cancer.
Piper in turn introduces the 1st inductee into the Hall of
Fame's class of '07---Dusty Rhodes. The video package includes
clips from the Dusty DVD, wth comments by Dusty and Pat Patterson,
among others. In the time it takes for Dusty to actually say
two sentences, however, Umaga & Armando Estrada come down
to spoil the party. Rhodes tries the flip, flop, & fly,
but gets a karate thrust in the throat. Piper tries to save,
but a chair shot has no effect. He, too, gets the karate thrust,
followed by a Samoan Spike. Rhodes got butt-splashed, and
later got the Spike as well.
With talk that the original Wild Samoans, Afa & Sika,
will be joining Dusty in the Hall this year, they could be
doing an angle where Estrada has Umaga attacking other inductees
until Afa & Sika are added to the list. Blackmailing the
Hall of Fame? Now, that's an original angle of sorts.
Ric Flair vs. Carlito (w/Torrie Wilson).Torrie's
had plenty of time to change outfits. Unfortunately, her presence
wasn't much help to Carlito, as Flair took him to school.
Carlito went for the backcracker in the corner, but Flair
held onto the ropes, and Carlito practically bounced right
off the Nature Boy and onto the canvas. Flair stacked up Carlito
to gain the fall.Winner: Ric Flair.
Melina & Nitro are waiting for an interview that never
comes, as Melina ends up revealing that she gets a rematch
vs. Mickie James on Monday. Meanwhile, Grisham is with Ashley,
and we get a sneak peek video of her Playboy layout. The cover
will be revealed tomorrow on Smackdown.
Earlier, Rated RKO welcomed Smackdown's MVP & Mr. Kennedy
to the "A" show, or so they claim. MVP believes
whichever show he's on is the "A" show. They have
dire intentions for the main event.....
Rated RKO, Mr. Kennedy, & MVP vs. Shawn Michaels,
John Cena, Undertaker, & Batista.What could've
made this match better is if Smackdown's announcers were also
at ringside to offer their point of view. Naturally, Uncreative
didn't think of that, so it didn't happen. Good, solid match.
Near the end of the match, Randy Orton ducked a superkick,
and HBK nearly nailed UT with the sweet chin music. Instead,
Taker caught the boot, and set up for a chokeslam, then hit
it on MVP instead. Orton pushed Michaels into Undertaker,
sending the Deadman to the floor. Michaels got the superkick
on Orton after all, for the 2nd straight week, and won it.Winners:
Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Undertaker, & Batista. Post-match,
Undertaker chokeslammed Michaels. Cena tried to save his partner,
but Batista nailed him with the Batista Bomb, leaving the
Smackdown faces standing tall to end the show and set up the
main event for No Way Out. |
