We open with a recap of the McMahon-Trump confrontation from
last week. Live, Vince McMahon opens the show, and cuts a
promo on Trump, getting in some shots at Britney Spears, Mr.
T, and Hulk Hogan along the way. He then brings out Umaga,
who will represent Chairman Wackjob at Wrestlemania, and after
Armando Estrada says it'll be an honor to do so, Vince announces
that Umaga will be challenging for the Intercontinental title
in our first match.....
Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga.[Intercontinental Championship
Match] These two met twice in December in non-title
tilts, with Umaga winning both times. It's pretty much more
of the same here, and Hardy is unable to sustain any kind
of offense for any length of time. He hits the whisper in
the wind, but that's the end of the offense. Samoan drop,
butt splash, Samoan Spike, and we have a new champion.Winner
and new IC champion: Umaga.
Ric Flair & Carlito (w/Torrie Wilson) vs. Lance
Cade & Trevor Murdoch. The former world tag team
champions have been on a roll of late, though their recent
winning streak was snapped by Cryme Tyme on last weekend's
Heat. Carlito, we're told, asked for this match out of respect
for Flair, who beat him last week. Cade & Murdoch got
heat on Carlito for much of the match until a hot tag to Flair,
who cleaned house. They got rid of Cade, and Flair hit a low
blow on Murdoch, then tagged out to Carlito. One backcracker
later, and it was over. Winners: Ric Flair & Carlito.
Todd Grisham interviews World tag team champions Shawn Michaels
& John Cena, who turn the interview into a forum for dueling
DVD releases. HBK touts the new DX DVD, out tomorrow, while
Cena counters by noting the fact that "The Marine"
is the #1 DVD rental in the country. It gets silly. Big Dick
Johnson appears and shakes his money maker at Cena. HBK hits
the superkick to quiet the world's worst stripper. Cena thanks
him. Meanwhile, Rated RKO are backstage, and Randy Orton reveals
he's gotten a tag title rematch for next week. Edge, though,
has a chance to qualify for Money in the Bank III vs. last
year's winner, Rob Van Dam, next......
Edge vs. Rob Van Dam. By far, the match of
the night. Both men pulled out nearly all of the stops. Edge
countered the Rolling Thunder with a modified powerslam for
2 in one of the highlights of the match. Unfortunately, the
match was ruined by a needless run-in by Orton, who distracted
RVD long enough for Edge to hit the spear for the pinfall.
Winner: Edge.
Mickie James vs. Melin [Women's Championship Match]
Melina comes out alone, as Johnny Nitro remains backstage.
Pretty even match, sloppy as usual. The finish came out of
nowhere, as Melina countered a Mickicanrana out of the corner
with a modified powerbomb, and got the surprise pin with a
jackknife cover. Didn't expect this to happen, as it appeared
Mickie might've been legitimately knocked out by the impact.
Winner & new Women's champion: Melina.
Afterward, Candice Michelle & Maria were consoling Mickie
when Grisham tried to do an interview. Mickie didn't want
to talk, but Todd pressed too much, and Mickie slapped the
taste right out of his mouth. Todd felt like crying.
The Highlanders vs. the Great Khali. Total
squash. Rory & Robbie tried to attack Khali at the bell,
but he no-sold the offense. He chopped Rory off the top rope.
Tree slam to Robbie finishes this one rather quickly. Winner:
Great Khali.
The late Curt Hennig, aka Mr. Perfect, is the 2nd member of
the Hall of Fame class of '07. Note that the interviews have
already been done for the DVD that will inevitably appear,
as Ric Flair and Larry Hennig were interviewed, along with
Edge. I would imagine Larry will be flown in for the induction.
John Cena vs. Randy Orton. Not quite on the
level of Edge-RVD. It was what it was. Pretty even match.
Cena went for the FU, but Orton did an eye rake to break that
up. He set up for the RKO, but Cena blocked it. Cena tried
again, but Edge showed up and speared the champ. Edge went
for some chairs and wanted to do a conchairto, but HBK came
racing out and made the save, clearing the former champs out
with chair shots. Cena eyed HBK rather warily as the show
ended, teasing a possible breakup as early as next week. Winner:
John Cena via DQ.
