We open with Jonathan Coachman, who makes the announcement
that the McMahon-Lashley match is now no-DQ, and that anyone
making an "unsanctioned" appearance in the match
will be subject to a fine or suspension. Well, you know how
that's going to turn out. Stone Cold Steve Austin comes out.
Basically, he's not playing favorites. He says he got some
gifts that supposedly were from Donald Trump, but it really
had a Stamford postmark. Coach owns up to sending the packages,
thinking that's what Chairman Wackjob would have him do. Nice
idea, but all he gets out of that is a Stunner and a beer
bath. Austin starts to leave the arena in his pickup, but
has to wait for a limo bearing the insane chairman. He flips
off Vince and leaves. Chairman Wackjob beats up his limo driver
and "fires" him. Oh, man, give me a break!
Melina, Victoria, & Jillian Hall vs. Ashley Massaro,
Candice Michelle, & Torrie Wilson. Standard 6-person
tag, but with the women involved, it gets sloppy in a hurry.
Torrie was never tagged in at all, and Melina barely was in
under a minute with Ashley before tagging out. Ashley pinned
Jillian with a victory roll. Winners: Ashley Massaro, Candice
Michelle, & Torrie Wilson.
Kenny Dykstra vs. CM Punk. Hometown hero
Punk gets a phat pop coming out, but Dykstra meets him with
a quick offensive flurry. Punk turns that around soon enough,
and after a bulldog, hits the Go To Sleep to pick up the win.Winner:
CM Punk. Edge appears on the TitanTron at the end of the match
and derisively applauds Punk. All 8 competitors in the Money
in the Bank match, Edge & Punk included, will be in the
ring next for The Cutting Edge.
Cutting Edge: The Rated R Superstar & Punk are joined
by Randy Orton, the Hardys, Ken Kennedy, King Booker, &
Fit Finlay. Finlay & Booker have words. Orton gets a shot
in on Edge. Everyone believes they'll win the match. Edge
starts a fight with Punk, then leaves. A brawl breaks out,
but after Punk & the Hardys clear out the heels, they
chase Edge to the back.
Mr. McMahon vs. Bobby Lashley (No-DQ/Non-title).
Naturally, Chairman Wackjob refused to compete until he had
his hand-picked soldiers come down to help. Lance Cade, Trevor
Murdoch, Chris Masters all got involved, and were quickly
thrashed, but then Umaga showed up. Chairman Wackjob hit a
low blow, then set up Lashley for Umaga's Samoan Drop. McMahon
got the pinfall, which might've come a wee bit too early.
The beatdown continued, and after a Samoan Spike, McMahon
ordered ref Marty Elias to count the fall a 2nd time. Winner:
Mr. McMahon. McMahon just sealed his fate at Wrestlemania.
Lashley took a 2nd spike after the match and was left lying.
McMahon just left after using Eugene as an object lesson.
The Hardys vs. Mr. Kennedy & Randy Orton.
Decent match, but not enough to wipe out the stench of the
previous bout. The Hardys hit Poetry in Motion on Orton, but
Kennedy dodged the bullet when his turn came. Matt hit Side
Effects on both heels. Matt went for the Twist of Fate on
Kennedy, who blocked and pushed Matt into the path of a sloppier
than usual RKO Winners: Mr. Kennedy & Randy Orton.
The last inductee into the Hall of Fame this year is Jim Ross.
Vidpack includes comments from the usual suspects (McMahon,
Austin, HHH, HBK, Foley), plus JBL, Chris Benoit, Ric Flair,
Dusty Rhodes, Ron Simmons, John Cena, Michael Cole, &
Matt Hardy. Jerry Lawler introduced JR to the crowd as the
newest member of the Hall.
Great Khali vs. Ric Flair. Not much to this
one, which doesn't bode well for Khali-Kane at Wrestlemania.
Khali for some reason decided to try the tree slam on the
stairs. Seeing his mentor in trouble, Carlito came rushing
out and engaged the Bengali giant, which led to the ref calling
for the bell. Carlito was promptly squashed, but then Kane
showed up, and after a brief scuffle, Khali left through the
crowd.Winner: Great Khali via DQ.
John Cena & Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker &
Batista (Non-title).
Return match from No Way Out, but much shorter. Undertaker
pressed HBK overhead, but threw him into Batista, continuing
their build for Sunday. Cena talks HBK into doing a double
5-Knuckle Shuffle on Batista, which proves to be a fatal mistake
for Cena. Michaels hit the superkick on Cena and just stood
there as Batista, recovering, crawled over and made the cover.
All this after Undertaker had left Batista behind. Winners:
Undertaker & Batista.
