Once again, no theme music to start the show. Seems to me
like they may be ready to change the theme again. Instead,
John Cena is out, sans WWE title belt, to address the crowd.
Cena owns up to the fact that Great Khali, who stole the
belt last week, hasn't been pinned or made to tap out. Khali's
only loss to date was a last man standing match vs. Undertaker
on Smackdown back in August '06. Cena promises to give Khali
the fight of his life on Sunday at Judgment Day, but wants
the belt back now. However, Khali appears on the TitanTron
with an interpreter. Cena goes backstage, but Khali just
flat overpowers the champion and chokes him out..
Jeff Hardy (w/Matt Hardy) vs. Trevor Murdoch (w/Lance
Cade). JR still can't believe the sportsmanship
displayed by Cade & Murdoch the last couple of weeks.
Murdoch gives Hardy a clean break early on. Total babyface
match, as Murdoch didn't try to cheat, nor did Cade even
attempt to interfere. Hardy barely connected, though, on
the Whisper in the Wind, but Murdoch sold it enough for
a near fall. Murdoch blocked the Swanton Bomb by pulling
his knees up, but only got a 2. Murdoch went to pick up
Hardy, presumably for a slam, but Jeff cradled him for the
win.
Winner: Jeff Hardy.
Santino Marella vs. Chris Masters (non-title).
Return match from last week, but this time the title is
on the line, although JR is under the impression that it
was. As before, Masters dominated the contest, and more
than once tried to apply the Masterlock, only to have it
blocked. Finish saw Masters attempt a wheelbarrow suplex,
or at least use it to set up the full nelson, but Marella
swung around his larger foe and managed a modified sunset
flip to earn the pin.Winner: Santino Marella.
Melina joins JR & the King at the desk for the next
match, and raises Lawler's blood pressure at least by doing
her entrance on the desk. She blows a kiss to both JR &
Lawler.
Candice Michelle vs. Victoria. The two-time
former champion is treated like a rent-a-jobber as she's
introduced last. The build for Candice as the next challenger
continues. Melina, of course, doesn't think Candi is in
her class, but then they said the same thing about Trish
Stratus 6 years ago. Candi with the spinning heel kick to
the head, and for the 2nd time in 3 weeks, Victoria is beaten
by Candice.Winner: Candice Michelle Post-match, Candi makes
the motion that she wants the title. Melina acts like she
doesn't have a clue what Candi's doing, dismissing the former
Playboy covergirl as another wannabe.
Edge returns to Raw for one more night, or, at least, until
the Uncreative team decides they need him to boost PPV sales
next month. He gloats about beating Mr. Kennedy & Undertaker
last week, and they don't even mention that Kennedy will
only be gone a couple of months. Shawn Michaels comes out,
and it's mentioned that he has a concussion after his encounter
with Great Khali last week. A match is made for later, which
will be Edge's last Raw match for a while.
Bobby Lashley vs. Jonathan Coachman (w/Vince &
Shane McMahon & Umaga). Total squash. Coach's
only offense was a weak forearm shiver. A few clotheslines
and a spear later, and Coach is toast, just as a fan foresaw
with his sign. Winner: Bobby Lashley. Post-match, Shane
& Umaga attacked, and the physical provocation erases
the stipulation placed on Lashley. Shane gets tossed to
the floor. Umaga misses a corner butt-splash, and eats a
spear. Vince, seeing all this, decides to run. Lashley chases,
but is intercepted by Shane. Bad idea. Shane is chased out
to the parking lot, where he climbs onto the roof of a limo
and escapes. Bobby starts back to the arena, but Dr. Wackjob
is waiting for him with a belt shot..
Carlito vs. Val Venis. As with Victoria,
Val is treated like a rent-a-jobber here, but unlike Victoria,
this one's a more competitive, evenly matched contest between
two former IC champs. Val goes for the Money Shot, but Carlito
rolls out of range. Val misses a corner charge, and Carlito
hits the backcracker to end it. Winner: Carlito. Ric Flair
came out after, and Carlito ran out through the crowd. They
will meet on Sunday. I want to get this in. I remember seeing
Carlito and Venis meet in a dark match a few years back,
before Carlito made his debut. He has come quite a ways
along in 3 years.
We get a sneak peek of the new Timbaland music video, featuring
Extreme Expose & Ashley Massaro, among others. We also
see Ashley among a group of WWE personalities quizzed about
"The Condemned". Triple H suggests leaving Mike
Mizanin on an island with those explosive ankle bracelets
all over Miz's body. Kinda tells ya what the former champ
thinks of Mizizzle, doesn't it?
Edge vs. Shawn Michaels (non-title). Edge's
chyron remains Raw red for one final night. The story here
was HBK fighting through the concussion, and it looked for
all the world like Edge might pick up another win on his
way back to Smackdown. He targeted the head of Michaels
with punches and kicks, but couldn't put Michaels away when
he had ample opportunity to do so. All of a sudden, Michaels
gets an adrenaline rush, and the familiar moveset takes
effect. Flying forearm. Nip-up. Atomic drop. Elbow off the
top. Superkick. Good night. Edge sold the sweet chin music
almost as if he too had been concussed. Winner: Shawn Michaels.
Post-match, Orton attacks HBK, wiping him out with a kick
to the head, leaving a lot of doubt about their match on
Sunday.
