We open with a recap of the ECW title match at Judgment
Day. Chairman Wackjob weasels out of dropping the title,
but he's definitely on borrowed time. Jump live to the arena
in Moline. Bobby Lashley is out to start the show proper,
and calls out Chairman Wackjob, who comes out with Shane
& Umaga. Vince at first says that no, Lashley isn't
getting another chance, then plugs One Night Stand, coming
up on June 3, where every match will be under Extreme rules,
including a streetfight for the ECW title. Shane makes the
mistake of claiming that his father has never lost a streetfight,
citing himself as one of the victims, when in fact Shane
beat his father at Wrestlemania 17. He otherwise namechecks
Austin, HHH, and Stephanie. Vince sets up a gauntlet for
Lashley for tonight. Run the gauntlet, and Lashley gets
his one-on-one match (we think) vs. Chairman Wackjob.
Ric Flair vs. Carlito. Return match from
Judgment Day. Carlito comes out on the offensive at the
bell, hoping to atone for his loss the previous night, but
as Jerry Lawler points out, Carlito's chest is still red
with welts from all those chops Flair hit him with, and
there's more where that came from. One would have expected
Carlito to get the win right back, but instead, the action
spills out onto the floor, where referee Marty Elias counts
both men out. After the bell, Carlito hit Flair with 2 Backstabbers
(backcracker) on the floor and left him lying. One fan was
heard to yell at Carlito, "I hope you choke on your
apple!", after the 2nd generation grappler spat some
apple on Flair.Winner: None. Double count-out.
Melina vs. Candice Michelle (non-title).
2 weeks ago, Candice pinned Melina in a tag team match,
but the question was whether or not the haughty poser princess
could stop Candice's recent winning streak. I don't think
Melina will take Candice lightly ever again after this match,
though. Candice makes it 4 in a row after using a jackknife
pin cover to put away the women's champ.Winner: Candice
Michelle.
Bobby Lashley vs. Chris Masters. 1st round
of the gauntlet. Lashley will not face one opponent after
another. Instead, they're going to spread the matches out
over the remaining 90 minutes and change. Lawler put over
the revenge factor, since Lashley was the one who broke
the Masterlock a few months back. Masters applies his full
nelson, but this time Lashley makes it to the ropes to force
a break, suggesting that his injured shoulder isn't strong
enough to break it this time. That was it for Masters on
offense, however, as Lashley put him away with the spear.
Winner: Bobby Lashley.
Matt & Jeff Hardy vs. Kenny Dykstra & Johnny
Nitro (non-title). The World's Greatest Tag Team
is at ringside, but don't do any commentary. Dykstra &
Nitro have been teaming of late on Heat, but JR & Lawler
refer to them as a "newly formed" team for some
reason. A combined 10 tag team titles among the four men
in the match, which the announcers didn't bother to reference.
Unfortunately, with the Lashley gauntlet the focus of the
evening, plus some other stuff, there isn't enough time
for this match to go anywhere, and thus Nitro & Dykstra
are treated like rent-a-jobbers, with Jeff pinning Nitro
after the Swanton. Winners: Matt & Jeff Hardy.Post-match,
Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin left the desk and started
a 4-on-2 assault on the Hardys until Lance Cade & Trevor
Murdoch made the save. Based on JR's comments, they had
another babyface match vs. the Hardys last night. Ah, but
there's a little dissent, as Jeff's unwilling to link hands
with Murdoch. Hmmmm. Personal feelings?
Great Khali and his interpreter, Runjin Singh (Raw scribbler
Dave Kapool) are in the ring, and Singh explains how Khali
had his foot barely under the bottom rope whilst in the
clutches of the STFU from John Cena at the PPV. He calls
Cena a coward, which brings the champ out, title belt back
in hand. Cena admits that the foot was under the rope, and
says that until Judgment Day, he was afraid of Khali, but
not anymore. The stage is set for a rematch, but Khali destroys
Cena again, leaving him lying in center ring after a chop
to the head and the tree slam. We'd later learn that they'll
have that rematch, a falls count anywhere match, at One
Night Stand.
Bobby Lashley vs. Viscera. About what you'd
expect. Vis hit the Whirlwind of Love (Black Hole Slam)
for a near fall, and used the wheel kick for another 2.
However, Vis missed a corner splash, allowing Lashley to
bound off the opposite ropes to spear the big man down and
out. Winner: Bobby Lashley.
Torrie Wilson, Maryse Oulette (making her in ring debut),
Ashley Massaro, & Extreme Expose are out to introduce
Timbaland & the Hives' music video, "Throw it On
Me". The video includes the six girls in a tag team
match (Maryse/Torrie/Ashley vs. Extreme Expose). The song's
pretty cool. Look for it to show up in the usual places
very shortly.
After a break, Randy Orton is out to introduce footage of
his match vs. Shawn Michaels from the PPV. He regrets that
Shawn's wife Rebecca had to endure what happened to her
husband, and after the footage is shown, Orton talks about
how injuries are, as the announcers will always tell us,
a target, and he took advantage of the situation as a professional
should. Not your typical glad-handing heel promo.
Bobby Lashley vs. Umaga. The Samoan Bulldozer
also has revenge on his mind, as he's 0-2 vs. Lashley. Being
motivated by a 61 year old nutcase isn't the same as having
a charismatic manager at your side, though. Frustrated by
his inability to beat Lashley, Umaga goes berserk and uses
a chair on Lashley. Big mistake, and after the bell sounds,
Umaga has a blank look on his face, unable to discern exactly
what happened. Winner: Bobby Lashley via DQ. Naturally,
Chairman Wackjob is on his way out, with Shane set as the
final opponent for Lashley, like sharks smelling blood on
the waters.......
Bobby Lashley vs. Shane McMahon. During
the commercial, Umaga continued the assault, including a
Samoan Spike to Lashley. Ref Chad Patten holds Shane back
to give Lashley a chance to regain his bearings to start
the match. Shane goes on the attack early, just as he did
the last time these two went at it in singles a month ago.
It spills out on the floor, and Umaga goes for another chair.
Patten throws Umaga out, and the McMahons have to convince
Umaga to leave, unwilling to risk another DQ, which would
hand Lashley the title shot on a silver platter. It serves
as a time buy for Lashley, who gets his 2nd wind, only to
get beaten down again. He tries the Dominator, but can't
complete it due to an "injured back". Shane goes
up top for an elbow, but Lashley springs up like a tiger
and spears Shane halfway to Chicago. Winner: Bobby Lashley.
