We open with Vince McMahon, looking hale & hearty, and in full fettle. Jonathan Coachman greets him. Vince wants everyone under contract in attendance to be in the ring at the start of the live show. This scene was recorded "earlier tonight".

After "To Be Loved", all of the talent---referees, divas, & wrestlers---march out to the ring. Umaga is the last one out before McMahon emerges. Vince wants to invoke his right to freedom of expression? Let's see. We're revisiting June 11, when Vince was "blown up", so we're going back to that angle. Feel free to cringe and run away from your TV. At least he's got his senses back. Now he says he wanted to see if people really cared about him. Long story short, Vince plans to discuss Congress, hypocrisy in the media, and certain family members before this night is out. The reason the talent is assembled? A battle royal to determine the new GM of Raw!!! Coach is the last one to come out, and I believe this will clear the way for Coach to concentrate on his new MSG gig.

Match 1: Battle royal to determine Raw GM: Way too many stars to list. My money's on William Regal to win, since it'd been rumored he'd be in line for the gig. King Booker's already gone. The divas vacated the scene when the match started. Whoops! Regal's gone! Final four are Cody Rhodes, Sandman, Carlito, & Shel Benjamin. Hmmmmm! Carlito eliminated Rhodes. Carlito & Benjamin began brawling on the apron, and Sandman knocked them both off. Sandman thinks he's won, but wait. Regal was hiding under the ring, I think, and made a timely return to eliminate Sandman to win the match. Winner & New Raw GM: William Regal.

This marks the 1st time Regal has been in an executive position since he was figurehead commissioner from December 2000-October 2001, in between Mick Foley's two terms. They're playing the "Masterpiece Theatre"-style music for Regal. Replay shows that Regal acted like he'd injured his ankle and went out under the bottom rope. Stayed there for most of the match, and then, when it was down to just Sandman, with whom he'd started a feud (in tandem with Carlito), Regal re-entered the match, using his boot as a weapon. No, it wasn't loaded. He'd taken it off to have his ankle examined, all part of the plan. Could you ever picture Simon Templar, "The Saint", as a police commissioner? Well, Regal's the closest thing to that scenario.

Backstage, Jon Coachman acts upset over Regal becoming GM, complaining that Regal isn't a US citizen, being from England. Meh, whatever. Vince compares the two congressional committees investigating WWE to Barney Fife from the "Andy Griffith Show". Take that however you will. Coach is demoted, if you will, to being Regal's assistant.

Triple H video, followed by Todd Grisham interviewing King Booker & Queen Sharmell. That gimmick has to go!

Match 2: Snitsky vs. Rory McAllister (w/Robbie) If you blinked, it was over. Rory never had a chance. Winner: Snitsky.

Vince is talking to a tech aide backstage when Coach catches up. A call came in that Coach transferred to his cellphone. It's Vince's accountant. Now, the company's being investigated by the Internal Revenue Service. Vince says the media will have a field day with this (though I'm not sure if it's true). He imagines a headline that suggests he was laundering money for a Columbian drug cartel. I believe that. I'll look for that in the pages of the Globe in about a week or two. As they leave, we see Irwin R. Schyster reading the Financial Times. Hmmmmm.

Match 3: Jillian Hall vs. Mickie James Pre-match, Jillian cut a promo and teased a duet with Lillian Garcia, who has a new CD due this fall. Instead, Jillian sang solo. Sorry, honey, but the joke is old. Good match, but it deserved more time. Mickie thought she had this one wrapped up as she went up top, but Jill went to the outside and hot-shotted Mickie on the top rope. Back in, Hall hit a full-nelson DDT for the win. Winner: Jillian Hall.

Post-match, Jillian was looking rather strangely at Lillian. Apparently, this will continue for a few weeks. So who's getting punished for what?

Meanwhile, Will Regal has changed outfits and looks rather dapper in a suit. He tells Coach that it was his dream as a boy to host his own game show. Now that he's the GM, he gets to fulfill that dream, and asks Coach to set up a game show set and round up some contestants for a live version of his personal favorite American game, "The Dating Game". Oh, this could be a show-stealer.

Carlito's Cabana is officially back, and as was the case last week, John Cena is the guest. Funny, I don't recall seeing Da Champ out at the start of the show.

Anyway, Cena & Carlito are nose to nose, but then Da Champ pushes Carlito into one of those lawn chairs. Cena decides to interview himself, which was pretty funny. He then pokes fun at David Letterman by doing a top 3 list.

"Three Reasons Why John Cena Should Trash the Cabana Set and Beat up Carlito":

3. The Coconut juices represent the only "nuts" Carlito has.
2. Carlito doesn't really like apples. He'd rather swallow a banana. Insert subliminal joke here, please.
1. It's cool.

A quick brawl ensues, leading to a Randy Orton run-in, but Cena sends him packing and FU's Carlito. Regal is out, and his music is actually a new beat. He will have Orton face Carlito later, with the winner to face Cena in the main event.

King Booker is on his way for a rematch with Jerry Lawler. The loser crowns the winner at Madison Square Garden next week.

Orton & Carlito, however, have convinced Regal to let someone else face Cena, since Carlito beat Cena last week, and Orton has Da Champ at Summerslam. Instead, it'll be Umaga vs. Cena. WWE champ vs. IC champ.

Vince tells Regal that he thinks he has to get the family back together. Shane has been MIA. Stephanie, supposedly, was meeting with 3 lawyers before appearing on the 6/18 show. Linda was being consoled by Basil DeVito. Please.

Match 4: King Booker (w/Queen Sharmell) vs. Jerry Lawler Return match from last week. Booker beat Lawler on the road over the weekend, but this match has a special stip. The loser must crown the winner at MSG next week. Sounds to me like Booker's gimmick is nearing its end. Pretty even match, picking up where they left off last week. Lawler avoided the axe kick once, but Sharmell holds his attention long enough for Booker to connect on his 2nd attempt, sloppy as it was, and gain the fall. Enjoy it while you can, Booker. Winner: King Booker.

Footage is shown of last week's match between Mr. Kennedy & Bobby Lashley. Kennedy won, and Lashley's on the DL with a torn rotator cuff. Enter Kennedy to gloat, and all he does is repeat his name a bazillion times before commercial......!

Up next is the Dating Game. Your "bachelors" are Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Ron Simmons, & Santino Marella, who has his arm in a sling as a result of an injury suffered over the weekend. Santino is turning heel during the course of this, with erstwhile love Maria as the contestant. Simmons comes up with variations on his catchphrase. Of course it's hilarious. Regal was so good at ragging on the "bachelors" and maintaining order. Maria, surprisingly, thought Santino was an impersonator. She ended up picking Simmons. Santino objected and demanded that Maria leave with him. Umaga's music hit, and as the IC champ came down for his match, Santino ran for the hills. Duggan, Maria, & Simmons followed, but back toward the locker room. Umaga was trashing the set as we went to break.

A courier delivers a summons for Mr. McMahon to Jon Coachman. Coach reads, then scurries off to find the Chairman.

Match 5: Umaga vs. John Cena (non-title, champion vs. champion) How many times are we going to see these two clash? Will Umaga finally get a win over Cena for the first time in a year? Not today. Cena went for the FU, but couldn't hold the IC champ, whose weight fell on top of Cena. Da Champ held his head to sell the impact, and that suggests that he may wind up getting concussed at Summerslam, if not before. Umaga hit a spinning sideslam, the same move that put Marella on the DL, but then went upstairs. He missed the splash, and Cena applied the STFU. Orton & Carlito came down, leading to the end of the match. Winner: John Cena via DQ.

Post-match, Carlito & Orton beat down Cena, setting him up in the corner for a butt splash from Umaga, but they slapped Umaga's chest one time too many, and the Samoan turned on them, knocking Orton out of the ring and Carlito into a corner via a savate kick. Carlito avoided the butt splash and got out of the ring.

Regal came out one final time, and set up Carlito & Orton vs. Cena & Umaga for next week, which will all but cement Umaga turning face.

In a bizarre case of deja vu, Vince, more lucent this time, is on his way out of the building, passing a parade of talent. He pauses to tell Paul London to take the smile off his face, a reference to what happened back in June. He goes to his limo, but is stopped by Coach, who hands him the summons. It's a paternity suit, alleging that he fathered a child out of wedlock. This happens all the time to other celebrities, so why not have Vince use this as an angle? Well, if it leads to the long-rumored incest angle involving Stephanie? The ratings will continue to drop.
