Chael Sonnen Suspended For 2 Years By Nevada Athletic Commission

Retired UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen was hit with a 2-year suspension from Mixed Martial Arts during his meeting on Wednesday with the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC).

In addition to the suspension, Sonnen will be required to pay all fees related to the random drug tests he failed on May 24th and June 5th.

He’s also expected to work with the NAC to educate fighters and the commission to improve drug testing techniques. Chael’s Lawyer stated at the hearing:

“The substances were obtained through valid prescriptions, which is to assure the commission that Mr. Sonnen obtained the prescriptions legally. He admits that he has violated the rules and is here to accept the repercussions. He has taken responsibility and is ready to accept the consequences.”

He also insisted that his client was not attempting to make excuses for his actions. Sonnen did not say much, but effectively surrendered himself to the fate awaiting him.

“I am guilty. I am ashamed, and I have no intention to put up a defense.”
