Have people already forgotten about Brock Lesnar? Have they forgotten that he returned to WWE for one sole purpose, and that was to become the WWE World Heavyweight champion?
Ever since Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson appeared on RAW 1000 to proclaim himself the challenger for the WWE championship at last year's Royal Rumble, the concept to proclaim oneself as the number one contender to WWE's richest prize wasn't so unorthodox. What made things so interesting was, to paraphrase Paul Heyman, no one would have the guts to tell Brock Lesnar that he couldn't be the number one contender.
That was, of course, until Big Show started tossing around the former UFC Heavyweight champion like a rag doll. Then we the WWE Universe had a fight on our hands, someone was actually brave enough to stare into the eyes of The Beast Incarnate and say that they weren't afraid, and we would see it all unravel at the Royal Rumble.
But that didn't quite happen, did it? Sure, Brock Lesnar decimated the 7-foot tall, 400+lb giant in a matter of seconds thanks to the mad genius of Heyman instrumented through steel chairs. It was easy to forget that there was a wrestling match--albeit brief--that took place in-between the hellacious chair beatings, but Lesnar also attacked the referee.
From the chair beatings, to his placement in the Royal Rumble card, to the events that occurred on the following night on RAW, there was actually no place, at least what I could fathom, of when Brock Lesnar would make good on his agenda to compete in a championship match.
Paul Heyman made it clear that following night, either Lesnar were to face Randy Orton or he would face the Royal Rumble winner--and new number one contender--Batista, or else. Not only were the fans robbed of insanely good match ups for a RAW main event, but that "or else" backfired with The Authority slapping a $10,000 fine for Lesnar's referee assault.
So what happened? Paul Heyman responded to the actions via twitter and stated that he paid the fine; and that Brock Lesnar had no remorse and offered no apologies to what he did. That was it. No World title shots. No stare downs against "The Animal" Batista. No reign of terror on the WWE locker room for not getting what he wanted. Absolutely nothing happened.
Anyone else noticed the snarky smirk from Triple H's face when Big Show escorted RAW guest host Betty White, as if to say, "That's right, everyone has forgotten about you and Lesnar"?
Last month, rumors started floating about that Brock Lesnar might return to UFC following a meeting he had with president Dana White, a meeting that was mentioned on UFC 169. Could we possibly see Lesnar back in the octagon after he retired from his MMA career? Or will we see him right back in time for the WWE Network launch? I'm going with the latter.
Seriously, what was the point of having Brock as the self-proclaimed number one contender, with Paul Heyman uttering the words: Eat. Sleep. Conquer. Repeat?
More like: Eat. Sleep. Conquer. Take a six-month break. Repeat.
