Reaction Zone - Time to give the women the prestige they deserve

I was going to write another fantasy booking post in relation to our next subject, but then I read an article that prompted me to scrub that idea for the moment.

Seems there's talk in WWE about reviving the Women's Championship, the title that has been held by Hall of Famers Fabulous Moolah, Sherri Martel, Trish Stratus, Lita, Jacqueline, and even Stephanie McMahon, who had the title for 5 months in 2000, but booked as a lazy champion by her father. However, if I were to venture a guess, I'd think the Princess would be the one at the forefront of putting the Women's title back in play after it had been unified with the Divas title by LayCool a few years back.

The butterfly-shaped Divas belt was introduced on television by then-Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero in 2008, and the traditional women's title was gradually phased out as a result. Seems WWE is finally realizing that while "Diva" is a marketing buzzword to describe the women, it also demeans them in terms of their standing in the company.

After all, the NXT Women's title is just that, a continuance of a tradition. Current "divas" champion Charlotte and one of her challengers at Wrestlemania, Sasha Banks, are former NXT Women's champions, and certainly deserve to have the new WWE Women's title replace the Divas belt, as would any of the other women.

Nearly 9 months ago, Charlotte, Banks, and Becky Lynch, the 3rd part of the triple threat at Wrestlemania, were called up to the main roster as part of an aborted "Divas Revolution". While it was Stephanie who introduced the trio on Raw, her father is the one who stifled the initial pushes by sticking Sasha with Tamina Snuka and Naomi, and pairing Charlotte & Lynch with Paige. Since Vince is obsessed with ensuring that "Total Divas" gets the most attention in the division, he's ruining the division as a result. What a shock, eh??

Charlotte's run as champ has been tarnished by the actions of her Hall of Fame father, Ric Flair, constantly interfering on her behalf, something she didn't have in NXT. If you're going to have Ric in his daughter's corner on Sunday, surely the challengers deserve to have some support, no?

Oh, yes. Here's where we throw in the fifty cents worth of ideas.

Start with Sasha. Her cousin, rapper-actor Snoop Dogg, is going into the Hall of Fame in the celebrity wing. Shouldn't take much to get the Doggfather to be the cornerman for Sasha. As for Becky, since the only other active Irishman on the WWE roster is a heel (Sheamus), you'd have to get either NXT champ Finn Balor, or bring in Dave "Fit" Finlay or Hornswoggle to be in Becky's corner, to even the sides. Money's on Finn, to tell you the truth, in order for this match to be taken seriously.

And it should. A triple threat shouldn't be one fall, since that doesn't solve everything. Make it an elimination match, such that the last woman standing is the champ, and you also eliminate the out clause the champ has, by decreeing that if Charlotte were to be disqualified for her father's interference, or lets herself get counted out, she forfeits her claim to the title.

Nearly a year ago, Sasha & Charlotte stole the show in NXT's 1st appearance in Albany, and Sasha won clean as a whistle with the Bank Statement. Add Becky to the mix this time, and you have potentially a match of the year candidate, provided WWE Uncreative doesn't do what it does best, and screw it up.

Charlotte's time as champ is up. In this writer's opinion, Sasha's ready to live up to her nickname, because she, as Snoop once sang, "Paid Tha Cost to be Tha Boss". Pardon the pun, but bank on this not only being on ESPN, but Access Hollywood, TMZ, etc., come Monday.

And, then, on Raw, have a newly turned babyface Stephanie swap out the Divas belt for the Women's title, presenting the new belt to Sasha (or whomever actually wins it). "Total Divas", from what I've read, has peaked in the ratings, but Vince stubbornly doesn't want to throw in the towel on the show (Sound familiar?). He should, and the change in belts for the ladies should start a real revolution against the old man. Bank on it.
