Thunder Struck - WWE NXT Analysis 03/04/15

Tyler Breeze defeats Adam Rose in our opener with a beauty shot from out of nowhere.

^This one was quick. It feels like forever ago when I saw these two compete in FCW as Leo Kruger and Mike Dalton, but here they are as "larger than life" characters doing their thing. Good little matchup to start the show and build the Breeze brand. He's got star power potential without a doubt.

Enzo Amore and Cass cut a backstage promo with Carmella about Blake and Murphy, the current tag team champs. Apparently they made her throw up in her mouth.

^The group is entertaining overall, but I want them to change up their ring entrance routine(you've probably heard me say that already several times). This backstage segment was actually refreshing to see them in a different scene with a calm demeanor.

Murphy and Blake defeat a couple of enhancement wrestlers.

^Putting over the champs with a simple win makes sense. We saw some good double teams in this one, and it was fun to watch for what it was.

Bayley wishes Charlotte luck against Sasha Banks tonight. Charlotte says Banks is the one who will need the luck. Emma comes into the scene when Charlotte leaves and essentially turns heel by putting down all of Bayley's positive attributes.

^Simple storytelling to make compelling rivalries? I'll say it all day long: THIS is NXT! Keeping it logical and easy works well, especially when the timing is done right. Emma's been back in NXT for a little while, and here she is making a name for herself against a top face by changing her attitude. Simplistic strategies work!

Baron Corbin squashes an enhancement talent. Kevin Owens comes to the announce table to stare at Alex Riley while Corbin competes. Owens doesn't sit.

^Corbin has the presence, but he lacks all skill and coordination. Send this guy back to training before you keep putting him on my screen. The potential is all there, but he's too much of a clumsy goon when it comes to putting the total package together. I want to see the guy succeed, but it's getting harder and harder to believe in him when you see his ring work. Almost reminds me of Konor of the Ascension for how limited he is.

Kevin Owens takes Riley's water bottle after the match and pours it all over him. Riley gets in Owen's face and says he'll kick his ass. Jason Albert holds him back. Owens walks away after his actions.

^I like the build for this one. It's a simple TV rivalry with an easy buildup. I expect these guys to give us something good on NXT TV in the coming weeks.

Sami Zayn has another personal video played. He talks about the reshaping of NXT and how he's celebrating 13 years in the industry on this day of the recorded video. Zayn says he's not mentally prepared right now to compete again.

^I like that they're keeping Zayn relevant while keeping him away and letting Owens have his spot. It builds up the momentum for a huge rematch in the future.

CJ Parker is talking with William Regal backstage. Alex Riley comes in and wants Kevin Owens. Regal says he'll give Owens to Riley when he thinks he is ready. Parker taunts Riley and Riley says he will start with CJ Parker next week.

^Simple is best. I'm going to copyright that phrase for a future NXT shirt. It's the way of the show.

Solomon Crowe takes on Bull Dempsey. Crowe wins a short match with a mix of strikes and a headbutt for the three count after Dempsey misses the diving headbutt from the top rope.

^It was short, but it was interesting. Crowe is a unique performer in the way he does things in the ring, and that's very refreshing. I'm not concerned about Dempsey; his time will come and right now he just needs to work matches and gain more experience.

Charlotte challenges Sasha Banks for the NXT Women's Championship in the main event. Sasha pins Charlotte using the ropes to her advantage just shy of the thirteen minute mark to retain the NXT Women's Championship.

^That's what I love about NXT. These two talented ladies tore the house down for nearly thirteen minutes and had the crowd making some serious noise! Great physical and intense action in a division well represented by these women. Charlotte and Banks both have huge futures as women wrestlers.

The show is a 7 out of 10. Everything was very average until the main event, but it was a good build of storylines and character enhancement. Can't wait for next week.
