1. Titus O'Neal & AJ Lee def. Derrick Bateman & Maxine when O'Neal pinned Bateman.
2. Yoshi Tatsu def. Tyson Kidd.
3. William Regal def. Darren Young.
I haven't been following NXT in a long time, and, with nothing better to do the other night, I decided to look at the latest episode.
Of late, Darren Young, one of two original players still in the competition, has had issues with MC Matt Striker, and laid out Striker two weeks ago. Young opens the show proper by mocking Striker. He's tired of the competition, and some might agree with that, as this season has been a little more open-ended, now closing in on 7 months without determining a winner. William Regal is called up to the ring, and while he appreciates what Young has done, he's not happy with Young taking liberties. Long story short, a match is made for the main event.
Jack Korpela takes over on play-by-play, with Todd Grisham having left two weeks ago to leave for ESPN.
1. Titus O'Neal & AJ Lee (w/Hornswoggle) vs. Maxine & Derrick Bateman.
Bateman returned to NXT recently, then ditched season 4 pro Daniel Bryan in favor of season 3 runner-up Maxine, who of late had served as a GM at FCW. The oddest couple in the company of late, however, is AJ and......Hornswoggle?! Yup, it's true. The two are holding hands as they head down to the ring. Well, it gives the little guy something to do, I'll grant you that much, but we've yet to see 'Swoggle return to Smackdown when AJ competes there.
Not much to this match. Pretty even when the women are in, but it's one sided for the guys. Bateman went for a schoolboy, but couldn't hold it, then walked right into the Clash of the Titus (formerly D'Lo Brown's Sky-Hi). Winners: Titus O'Neal & AJ Lee.
Backstage, Maxine & Bateman are arguing, then decide to plot against Hornswoggle before pausing to make out.
Matt Striker replaces Regal at the desk for the rest of the show.
2. Tyson Kidd vs. Yoshi Tatsu.
Kidd has shaved off his hair, as if that'll change his luck of late. Hasn't been able to win on Smackdown, and his search for a manager on Superstars appears to have been stifled. Here's a clue, Tyson. Reunite with your girlfriend, Natalya. Tatsu now has facepaint on half of his face, in homage, apparently, to the Great Muta, as Striker quickly points out. Fairly even match, and a case can be made for the revival of the cruiserweight division with these two. Air traffic control should've been called. Kidd went for a huracanrana, but Tatsu blocked, then hit a ginormous spin kick off the top to end it. Winner: Yoshi Tatsu.
3. William Regal vs. Darren Young.
To give the veteran Regal credit, he gave Young plenty of offense. He made a comeback, starting with a sweet looking exploder for 2. Inexplicably, JTG, who has turned heel on this program, came down. Striker left the desk to intercept, and Regal finished Young with the Knee Trembler. Winner: William Regal.
The two wrestler-turned-announcers are standing tall to end the show, which means we may see a tag match next week!
